AGENTS Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Will Resume Filming In July

Actor Clark Gregg who portrays Agent Phil Coulson in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. discusses his 'talented young S.H.I.E.L.D. ensemble', calling Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) a 'notorious S.H.I.E.L.D. badass'. Filming on episode two begins this July.

Continuing Much Ado About Nothing promotions, actors Clark Gregg and Nathan Fillion recently spoke to popular YouTuber Jeremy Jahns. After talk of Much Ado concluded, Clark Gregg was hit with a few Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. questions. He stated, "I think the Marvel Universe is a little more accessible to the concept of people not being 100% dead. And I was also lucky enough to start having some people write "Coulson Lives" all over the globe." Previously documented info but still interesting to pause and think upon. When Coulson was apparently dead many a fan lamented that fact and now that he's coming back people are saying that maybe he shouldn't, maybe that undermines some of the plot and seriousness of The Avengers. It will all depend on how Coulson returns in my opinion.

And how that unfolds will be seen this Fall. The pilot is in the can but there's still more episodes to film. Here's what Clark says about the show, whether he is the focal point, on his co-stars and on when filming begins on more episodes. "That's the theory of those involved, that Agent Coulson is driving the ship," Gregg jokes about whether or not Coulson carries the show. "But I'm surrounded by a particular ensemble of young S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents, [as well as] the magnificent Ming-Na Wen who plays Agent Melinda May, who's a very notorious badass within S.H.I.E.L.D." Clark continued, "I'm excited to shoot the show, we've only shot one. I'm excited to see where it goes." When asked to clarify if they've only shot the pilot so far or a string of episodes, Clark confirmed, "We shot the pilot, [ABC] picked that up, in about six or seven weeks we start shooting more of them and we will have just enough of them in the can that we'll be theoretically ahead of when they show them on tv."

ricko8687, how will Coulson being revealed as being alive after all detract from the Avenger's motivations? The Avengers were motivated into pulling together when Fury showed them the bloody Captain America trading cards and THINKING that Coulson was dead.

This show will have about 2 seasons before it gets pulled off of air.

I mean like, I don't really know how the industry works and all but the only way I see this show actually getting more and more views is if actors from the actual avengers films make cameos on the show.

An Iron Man, Captain America, Thor or even a Bruce Banner cameo every now and then would give the show the attention it needs.

However if it were up to me I would use the show as an easy way to introduce rookie marvel characters.

I love Agent Coulson as a character and will love to get to see him every week. I don't care how he comes back as long as it makes some sense. It does not cheapen The Avengers at all.

I expect that this show could be, and probably will be, awesome. Unlike most of Whedon's shows, this one will have a huge audience from the beginning, so it won't struggle to find an audience. It will have that great mix of comedy, action, mystery and a little bit of romance that appears in all of Whedon's shows. And if it ever gets stale, all they have to do is pull out one of the unused Marvel characters to liven things up. (And they won't have the silly limitations that Smallville had to deal with.) The biggest problem will be that the budget for TV will reduce the action and special effects.

Now all we have to do is make sure that Jeph Loeb is too busy to write any episodes. Suggestions?

What I want to know is where the hell are Ross, Blonsky and Sterns after all SHIELD was heavily involved in TIH.

You can't build a shared universe and just decide to ignore stuff. I'd love a Justin Hammer cameo or Leonard Samson as well or throw in Ezekiel Stane somehow.

Plus we have Extremis now and the serum that was used in TIH - tap into that potential Marvel!

I do think it can detract from The Avengers but comics have done it for years so it all depends on the execution of how he's brought back. I'm very interested to see where it goes.

How would it detract? It wasn't Coulson's dead, cooling body that motivated them. They didn't know for certain whether he was dead or sitting down with a nice glass of wine laughing over the whole thing. All they had was Fury's word. All WE have is Fury's word. The man whose secrets have secrets.

He may have even been telling the truth and Coulson DID die.

But he got better. Stranger things have happened and not just in the Marvel Universe. Either way, as far as the Avengers were concerned he WAS dead, whether Fury lied, or he did die and was somehow revived or resurrected later, so their motivation remains intact. As long as it's explained (and not just left like so much was in Lost) then it's all part of the game.

If you don't like the game, yo'...

Anyone remember when James Bond "died"?

Had a funeral and everything.

Anyone remember when Den from Eastenders "died"?

Had a funeral and everything.

Anyone remember when Batman "died" in an atomic explosion?

Had a funeral and everything.

Anyone remember when Sherlock "died" at Reichenbach Falls?

The pattern? You can have a funeral, but no body = anything's possible.

With Coulson, we didn't even have a funeral. We saw his dying body and his possible expiration, but not his cold, dead corpse. And after that, nothing but Fury's lie... Why need to use the cards at all to 'prove' Coulson was dead when he could have just shown them to the corpse to pay their last respects and really hit it home to them?

Because the man's secrets have secrets. Whatever happened, it was made quite clear, with the cards lie, that it wasn't as simple as Fury was telling.

No body = ?

Small point - they weren't "motivated" by Coulson's death - their motivation was Loki and the invading army - Coulson's death was, in Fury's words, "the push they needed" to get their heads in the game.

I suspect a little bit of Haterism and a bit of simple, stereotypical geek snark is going on here tbh.

You guys should learn to enjoy it when things are good, because if you think Avengers is bad, and you aren't excited by an official Marvel SHIELD show on TV, then I question what you're doing here at all.
