EW report that Ian Hart will be joining Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D in a recurring role. The site don't reveal the name of his character or if he'll be a part of Marvel canon, but do say that he will be a scientist -- while also divulging a little more info on the show's apparent "unwritten rule": "All super-powers introduced on the show must be explained by science — not magic or supernatural forces." That narrows down any cameos from certain Marvel characters fans might have been expecting to see! Hart will be best know to Harry Potter fans as Professor Quirrel, but he is a veteran of British and Irish film and television, and has most recently appeared on US screen in the likes of A&E’s Bates Motel, HBO’s Luck, and FX’s Dirt.

He's not Hank Pym or Dr. Strange and I'm sure that 99 percent of the characters on the show will be lesser known or original no matter how much ABC wants fans to speculate so they watch the show.

I'm sure we'll know in eight weeks or so after the show gets going.

None of the announced cast are part of the Marvel mythos so far... It's looking dull, but I'm hopeful

He's NOT a guy from the comics.
AOS has pretty much made it their mission to not introduce comic characters and what a no magic rule??

How does this relate to the Avengers then?
Since Scarlet Witch is confirmed to be using magic and didn't Loki have magic? (Or was it science magic)

@Cherry

I think they're avoiding the magic/supernatural because they don't wanna jump the gun and introduce it before Dr. Strange hits the screens.

Also this is basically gonna be Fringe with a Marvel twist so no magic makes sense to me. Keep it classy, don't go camping the place up before you have a chance to properly establish how magic ight fit into this universe.

I think they're probably trying to stay out of the way of development of "Dr. Strange" with that rule. Let the people in charge of that eventual film define how magic works in the Marvel Universe.

Umm...a great deal of the cast are part of the Marvel SHIELD canon, so I am not sure where your statement is coming from.

Cherrybomb@ I don't think we can read too much into the magic/science statement. It was made clear in Thor how the two interrelate. I think it just means SHIELD will try to explain everything rationally by using science, but that doesn't necessarily mean it has to be the case. In the trailers and clips we have already seen a few super-powered individuals.

I think it'd be cool if he showed up as The Fixer/Techno. It doesn't say whether his role is as a good guy or bad. Plus having him reoccur as an inventor/tech guy could be a great way to introduce a number of different characters and concepts into the show. Plus he has the right look.

"All super-powers introduced on the show must be explained by science — not magic or supernatural forces."

That could be taken in two ways...

Do they mean only science based superpowers will be introduced on the show? Or that all superpowers be they magic or supernatural based, will be explained scientifically?

This show is supposed to connected to the MCU, so I'm assuming it's the latter. I'm really hoping that's the case.

@CherryBomb Lol! It's confusing isn't it? That would be pretty disappointing if magic/supernatural powers aren't allowed on the show.
