Why Agent Coulson Is Set Up Perfectly To Become The Vision

A lot of people are speculating that Phil Coulson will go on to eventually become the Vision in the MCU. Why do I think this is so possible? Read on to find out...

What is it with Phil Coulson? Is he dead, alive, human or android? Who knows? But since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D's mysterious scene regarding what really happened after his apparent "death" at the hands of Loki in the Avengers he could be any one of the four. My favorite? The idea that Coulson may well end up being the Vision. Why? It may be the most controversial rumor about at the minute but in my opinion, Marvel have been setting up Coulson as Vision for a long time, and here's why:

*Who doesn't like Phil Coulson?

The Avengers was a great film but a lot of people have problems with the characters. Complaints such as, "Maria Hill has the personality of a brick" or "Black Widow is only used to bring in more male viewers" are thrown around a lot but Phil? No one complains about Coulson, he's the one guy everyone likes, and if Marvel were going to introduce a non-mainstream character like Vision they'd want to use a well known and likable character. Coulson seems like the perfect choice.

*He's the perfect blank slate

If you didn't know, in the comics, Ultron created Vision to help in his battle against the Avengers. Were it to be revealed in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D that Coulson as a LMD (Which have been mentioned in the MCU) Ultron could easily alter him into Vision to help him fight the Avengers in Age of Ultron. As well as this, we know Ultron likes to manipulate people, we are also pretty sure that Stark is going to be directly involved with Ultron's creation. Stark was the worst affected by Coulson's death in Avengers and this is something Ultron wouldn't think twice about doing.

*He's trusted by everyone

Everyone in both the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D trusts Coulson, most importantly, Nick Fury, even referring to him as his "One good eye". If anyone were to be manipulated and used against the Avengers in Age of Ultron it's gonna be the one person everyone feels safe around, again making Coulson the perfect choice.

So, a lot of people don't like the idea of Coulson becoming Vision, mostly fanboys who want a perfect origin story taken straight from the source material, but we know the MCU isn't really sticking to the source material (That "twist" in Iron Man 3) so what's the big deal? As fans we want to see as many of our favorite characters in added as possible. Marvel have the perfect opportunity to introduce the Vision so let's just sit back and enjoy what Marvel give us next.

I would be okay with the idea.

If they were to bring Vision into the films, its the most faithful way to do it. Even though Ultron would be creating Vision from an LMD...or some type of AI that already exista, the most important part would be there, which is Ultron creating Vision to battle the Avengers and then Vision breaking that programming to join the team.

It would actually be a great way to defeat Ultron in the movie Vision joins them in the end to help defeat him.

Also, they already said that A2 would be much more personal to the entire team. What would be more personal than the guy that the whole team liked and trusted being turned into an enemy?

I actually hope they go this route.

Also, if they wanted the Agents of SHIELD show to really mesh with the films this would be a great way to do it. Plot threads from the show, like the whole Coulson mystery finally coming to a head in the film would be fantastic.

Frick Agent Coulson? Who are you?

And also let's keep Agent Coulson as who he is because if he becomes any other character two things are going to happen

We lose Agent Coulson's personality and character (after almost losing him once)

or

It's just Agent Coulson dressed up as the Vision... so not really the Vision.

That's like saying Agent Coulson will become Quicksilver. No he won't, it will just be Agent Coulson with super speed, not Quicksilver. So why don't we just keep him as himself and be done with it.

IMO Coulson has been Vision all along...He's just the MCU version of the character.

Marvel Studios, instead of giving us an a green, red faced and yellow caped android, they just humanized him in the form of Agent Phil Coulson who at times u can see is always strangely calm and has a strange way of showing emotion emotion, and when he does its still feel somewhat off.

As Whedon said he want to " humanize " Ultron in the upcoming sequel, whether that means emotionally or actually humanizing him in the for of James Spader...Whos to say they haven't already done that with Vision by making him Coulson through all the films?

That's just been something I've been pondering on ever since the first rumor of Gregg/Coulson being mentioned of becoming Vision...No need to keep waiting, he's been here this whole time :]

This is actually the most logical reasoning for why Coulson could be Vision. Nice job!

Looking back the Mandarin wasn't to far off. Now days he's just a successful business man like killian, only dif is he's Chinese and has rings instead of extremes. But anyway, either coulson should become the vision, or Jarvis. Jarvis would hurt people just the same especially Tony. Especially if we see Jarvis running Avengers Mansion (If they make it) it would be cool to see him turned into a robot that turns good in the end.

I like this theory! Coulson is really an android that was implanted with the Tahiti memories so he wouldn't know. Ultron comes and takes over the SHIELD computer system and finds the files on the Coulson android and takes over coulson. He remodels him and tries to use him against the Avengers, but the human part of Coulson takes over and he joins the Avengers side.

That would be a great story redhood. The only thing is they need to find a way to make the Android original while still being coulson. At least distort his voice a tad. As long as he joins I don't really care. Also Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch should just not be talked about on backstories. Just leave the Mystery and then have them find out they are Mutants if MCU ever gets the rights back.

I think that would be really cool but if he's a LMD then the Coulson the Avengers knew has been dead for a while.

So won't they be pissed off when they see him and then even more pissed when they find out he's a robot?
