Yesterday, ABC announced that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return to our screens for its seventh and final season on Wednesday, May 27, and now EW has revealed that the team's time-travel adventures will bring them into contact with a character from the now defunct Agent Carter.
There's no mention of Hayley Atwell reprising the role of Peggy Carter, but her costar Enver Gjokaj will return as Daniel Sousa.
"It wasn't anywhere near my brain," says Gjokaj, who was surprised when the opportunity to return to his Agent Carter role arose. "I would've been thrilled at any moment for it to come back, but I think as an actor you don't have time. You just have to move on to the next project."
There was speculation that AOS Season 7 might feature some kind of Agent Carter nod or reference when the crew jumped back to 1931 New York in the Season 6 finale, but an actual cameo appearance from one of the cancelled show's characters seemed like a long-shot.
When we last saw Sousa he was running the SSR's Los Angeles bureau and had grown very close to Peggy, but on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. we're going to "see him in a different light" according to co-showrunner Jeff Bell. "[Sousa] had a particular role on [Agent Carter], and so we were able to show another color of him that you hadn't necessarily seen on the show."
Check out a new official image of Sousa below, and let us know if you're looking forward to the return of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the usual place.
