After an impressive and critically acclaimed first season, “Marvel/Netflix's Daredevil” star Charlie Cox was honored Thursday at the American Foundation for the Blind's 19th Annual Helen Keller Achievement Awards in New York City.

Cox received an award for his portrayal of Matt Murdock, stating that,

"Since the show has been released, I've had a great number of emails and letters from people in the blind community experiencing degrees of vision loss," Cox said during his acceptance speech. "I had one particular stranger in London who was understandably stressed by her decreased vision." The woman, he said, was more concerned with losing her independence than losing her vision. "I remember thinking that that is actually far away from the truth."

Cox continued,

"Based on the experience that I've had on the show and being so amazed by the amount of tools and the support and education … that is not the case."

@Sonofbatman

Arkham Knight spoilers in an article that has nothing to do with Arkham Knight. Classy move.

I just spent a lot of time in that Spider-Man thread talking about racial and gender diversity in comics and TV/Film. One thing people don't talk about enough is disability (and there's a lot of reasons why, I think, but not really worth talking about here). I'll just say that if blind people and their allies feel that they were well-represented by Cox's performance and Daredevil's show as a way to raise consciousness, then good for them.

Diversity is a good thing. Awareness is a good thing. Understanding and support is a good thing. Solidarity.
