New Details On DAREDEVIL's Costume, Level Of Violence In The Series, And More

It sounds like Daredevil will definitely be getting his classic red costume in the upcoming 13-part series from Marvel and Netflix, but how it comes about sounds very interesting indeed. Hit the jump for details on that and more on just how much the boundaries will be pushed in terms of violence...

Will the Man Without Fear get his iconic red costume in the upcoming Netflix series? That's the question everyone is asking, but we now finally have an answer. Talking to Empire Magazine, Daredevil costume designer Stephanie Maslansky reveals that the black vigilante outfit was pieced together from "practical sports and military wear, restitching garments from companies like McDavid, CAT, and G-Star." All of this she says is stuff that Matt could "go out and find himself." When the site mentioned the red outfit and horns, she added: "In the end, somebody else [in the story] makes his Daredevil costume. What's really exciting is the evolution of it, and how he comes to have it made." It sounds like we WILL get to see the costume, but this is all quite vague!

Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight wasn't willing to reveal anything specific either, but it does sound as if we're going to see the costume develop and chance throughout the course of the series. "Without giving too much away, this show is Matt learning to be a hero. He starts in that first iteration of the Daredevil outfit which is taken very much from Frank Miller and The Man Without Fear. But I always questioned [the main costume]. I mean, one, he's blind. Did he stitch it together himself? How did he manage all that? So, actually getting him to that point I thought was really interesting." This again seems to indicate that someone else will create Daredevil's classic red suit for him. We'll just have to wait and see, but it's going to be hard not to fast forward through the episodes when they're released to see if he's wearing the classic red suit at the end!

Talk then turned to the level of violence in the series, with DeKnight confirming that they will push the boundaries of what's acceptable in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Netflix, of course, they don't have a problem with pushing it. I mean, they go anywhere from G to NC-17. But the Marvel brand, that's a little different. They're obviously not comfortable going that far with it, though they've allowed us to push it much further than you've seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since starting with Iron Man. It is much more geared towards adults. We call it PG-16. We don't quite get to R, but we kiss right up to it." What do you think about these comments and details?

I don't have any problem with the black costume and I'm glad they're making his suit in a way that makes more sense than just a blind guy making it by himself

So...

By the end of the series he will have his red costume? Will it be movie quality? I mean, Daredevil will eventually appear in a MCU movie at some point.

I don't care; I'm just excited to see something that's MCU related that's finally going outside of the PG-13 comfort zone. Tell a good story, make it shocking, be a little tasteful, and you've sold me.
