Though they did flirt a little in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) sharing that kiss in Civil War threw a lot of fans for a loop - if for no other reason than Sharon happening to be the great-niece of the love of Steve's life!
It was believable that these characters would share a connection and form a bond, but for many, adding a romantic element to their relationship was a step too far. Marvel seemingly agreed, because the subplot was completely dropped after Civil War.
While speaking to Collider about her return as Sharon Carter, aka the Power Broker, on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, VanCamp admits that she had reservations about the kiss from the start and suggests that Marvel never had plans in place to continue the relationship.
"You sort of trust and hope that it all makes sense in the end," VanCamp tells the site. "I did have a few moments where I wondered, 'Are we going too far with this? Should this be more of an amicable, friendly moment?' I didn't really know. I don't think any of us really knew. I don't think it's anyone's fault that it didn't totally work in terms of the story. I don't think anyone knew where that was headed or what we were going to do with that moment. It was a sweet moment as it was."
She continued, "It's a hard one to answer because you don't want to sort of say, 'Well, it was a terrible moment and it didn't make any sense,' because everyone's just kind of doing the best they can to service the story in that moment, really."
Honestly, fans have always made far too big a deal out of the scene anyway (people can share a kiss without confessing their undying love for one another), and at the very least, we did get that great shot of Sam and Bucky reacting from the car.
