Fan Theory Potentially Reveals Status of Marvel's DAMAGE CONTROL TV Show

A fan theory based on Spider-Man Homecoming Set Photos has potentially revealed what became of Marvel's planned "Damage Control" TV Series. Click through to read the details...

Back in October 2015, Marvel announced they were planning to adapt the comic book series "Damage Control" as a half-hour TV comedy set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, very little had been heard from the project, and many assumed it had been cancelled, with the conceptually similar "Powerless" from DC Comics set to beat it to the small screen this February. Well, a user on Reddit may just have uncovered the reason for the blackout on the Damage Control TV Show in a recently posted fan theory.

The user first notes the striking similarity between a photo of Tyne Daly in costume on the set of Spider-Man Homecoming and Anne Marie Hoag, the fictional director of "Damage Control Inc." in the comic book series.

(Tyne Daly was officially cast in Spider-Man Homecoming back in June, but like many cast members they have yet to reveal who she is playing)

Secondly, he notes that the man standing next to her (seemingly American actor Gary Weeks) is wearing a security badge bearing the initials "DODC", which he theorizes could stand for "Department of Damage Control".

(Set photo above, possible badge logo below incorporating the Damage Control icon)

Furthermore, he mentions that actor/stuntman Gregory French is currently listed on IMDB for the movie as "DODC Guard".

Obviously like all fan theories this could prove to be wildly off the mark, but if not, and these pieces of evidence do legitimately point towards the presence of Damage Control Inc. in the  Spider-man Homecoming movie, then there are potentially a few explanations as to what became of the Damage Control TV Show...

1. They are planning to introduce Damage Control in the movies first, and then spin it off into its own TV show, but with an entirely new cast like they did with Agents of SHIELD.

2. They are planning to introduce Damage Control in the movies first, and then spin it off into its own TV show, whilst retaining the actors from the movie. After all, none of the aforementioned actors would seem to be too big for a half-hour TV comedy show.

3. The Damage Control TV show has been entirely scrapped as the movie division of Marvel wants to retain their use solely for the movie side of the business.

What do you think? Does his theory hold up? If so, which outcome do you think is most likely, or most desirable?

"If" this is the case, then it sounds cool for another reason. It would mean that the film and television divisions are working together more than previously.

Its more Marvel trying to force something that clearly isnt working. Its been rejected several times and by the looks of things they are going to kind of force it into Spider-man Homecoming.

Considering the DODC was supposed to be a more comedic take on the clean-up crew that occurs after each Marvel film... its an additional element of comedy in a film that's main comedic draw is supposed to be the main character.

This is some Nacy Drew sleuthing skills if this has any truth to it.

Assuming the photos aren't doctored...

Would this be the first intentional two-way cross-pollination of Marvel Studios and Marvel TV? The AoS/Age of Ultron helicarrier connection may or may not have been one -- I'm sure the Whedon connection made that sorta-Easter egg easier to accomplish.

It's too bad Marvel TV is under the more direct control of Marvel Entertainment (Ike Perlmutter) than of Marvel Studios, which Kevin Feige successfully spun off to be more closely tied with Disney feature entertainment.

I know Feige has his hands full managing the movies, but I think it would be to both branches' benefit to have the shows be part of Marvel Studios, even if only managed by one of Feige's close partners.

Right now I think the relationship works like this:

MARVEL TV: So, what's happening in [Marvel movie]? We are planning the next season of [Marvel show].

MARVEL STUDIOS: Can't tell you that.

TV: Come on, throw us a bone here.

STUDIOS: Okay, we have magic. And magic books. And portals!

TV: Ooh, can we piggy back on that?

STUDIOS: Uh, sure, but I can't tell you much more.

TV: Can we see concept art?

STUDIOS: Uh, you can watch the trailers.

The films aren't going to connect to this show. Ever since Marvel Studios split from Marvel Entertainment, the film division clearly wants nothing to do with the television division.

It is a shame, as a lot of fans want to see the Agents of SHIELD, Defenders and the Inhumans on the big screen.
