In Black Widow's post-credits scene, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine made her second MCU appearance to point Yelena Belova in the direction of her sister's killer: Clint Barton. While we know Hawkeye wasn't actually responsible, it's easy enough to understand why the former Red Room operative would blame the Avenger for what happened to Natasha Romanoff and a battle between the two seems inevitable.
During a recent interview with Games Radar, Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas said he "can't speak to that" when asked whether a fight will ensue, but still dropped some intriguing new hints.
"We know their past, and obviously what happened in Endgame. We know in these first two episodes that Clint's dealing with the fallout of that. But in terms of how they meet...I'll just pretend I don't know. Imagine it's a happy meeting, where they talk over coffee and work things out."
We're betting that this meeting won't be too peaceful, and it remains to be seen whether Yelena will see sense when Clint tells his side of the story. Either way, Hawkeye is clearly going to be a key part of Phase 4, and Thomas went on to explain how the show fits into the studio's plans.
"It's definitely a standalone thing in that we have this Christmas setting, and this very fixed timeframe story," he teased. "But it being the MCU, of course, it all connects in some way as well. And we've got new characters, and this was teed up at the end of Black Widow as well. And so everything is always a nice entry point. But I think for the most part, the story is its own little world."
The first two episodes of Hawkeye hit Disney+ on November 24. Check out our reaction below:
