HAWKEYE "Honest Trailer" Makes ARROW Comparisons And Likens Kingpin's Role To Darth Maul

Screen Junkies has released their "Honest Trailer" for Hawkeye, and the Disney+ series comes under fire for putting the spotlight on Clint Barton, similarities to Arrow< and not enough Yelena Belova...

Hawkeye concluded its six-episode run last month, and the show received an extremely positive response from fans and critics alike. It wasn't necessarily perfect (it might take a while before we can forgive Marvel Studios for that post-credits scene), but there was a lot to love about the Christmastime adventure.

The Screen Junkies team don't appear to have been too impressed, however, as this latest "Honest Trailer" is surprisingly harsh with its judgement of the Disney+ series.

Poor Clint Barton is mercilessly mocked as the lamest Avenger, and while the trailer finds some nice things to say about Kate Bishop, it also points out that she's a "milestone of representation" because the archer is "the first hero to think Hawkeye is cool." In addition, the new Hawkeye doesn't escape being compared to Arrow's Oliver Queen as a vigilante with blatantly villainous parents.

Most of the observations here are tongue in cheek, though, like Clint being the "most 'over it' Avenger [who] has heard enough of your sh*t."

However, the most astute criticism here has to be how Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin of Crime was seemingly wasted on a one-off appearance that draws comparisons to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace's use of Darth Maul. We are hopeful Wilson Fisk will return in Echo, of course, but nothing is confirmed.

@regularmovieguy -

Putting the blame on ScreenJunkies for this one, not CBM. Ever since Dan Murrell left, even their once funniest bits are no longer the same. Jon Bailey's voice is the only thing keeping them relevant at this point.

Like, in all seriousness, of you're looking for something as entertaining as these videos used to be, go for those Pitch Meetings by Ryan George on ScreenRant instead.

@DrReedRichards - It's honestly amazing how Ryan George uses the same gags for every video, yet they never stop being funny.

I don't think so, SJU is still going strong without Dan Murrell with millions of views per trailer. Spencer and Lon has always been the funny ones, Dan was just more snarky. The only part that suffers in their trailer is the "starring" part as their "ages" are showing.

The true star of honest trailer has always been Spencer. when he went on paternal leave to take care of his newborn, all the honest trailers starting with Aquaman 1 were terrible until he came back.

@Kumkani -

Yeah, the dude is really good. His main channel is even better, especially his "the first guy to [x]" series.

Neither am I, tbh. His stuff is the only thing gaining them traction.

@mastakilla39 -

Respectfully disagree. Personally, the only Honest Trailer I remember legit laughing my ass off with in the last couple of years was the one for ZSJL, and that says a lot since I was predetermined to mock that thing anyway.

dude, I feel like that's a tough transition. It's kind of easy for a singer to go to movies (if they have the ability to act).
And although I think most actors have the ability to sing, given the lengthy amount of time in voice training, working on different pitches, etc., It's so weird seeing an serious actor going all out in a music video.

I watched his biggest "hit" and man... it is tough to watch.
Good for him tho lol

Time for me to be honest, I never really liked the movie guy voice through an entire video. Like just have some funny guy say it.

Was really into this show until the finale. But I feel like most of these Disney+ Marvel shows are decent or good throughout the season and just fall flat in the finale. Which kind of sucks, because it leaves a bad taste and makes me not want to rewatch any of these shows. I really hope that Moon Knight improves on that

The one thing that really bugged me about Hawkeye was just that things would happen. Like someone would say something and then it would be done with like no tension or development or discussion, then they would force all that stuff.

It’s like, “Let’s look in my mom’s database to see who the culprit is. Yep, it’s the guy we’re looking for.”

“Hey, there’s a guy wearing my suit out there. Better stop him. There he is.”

“I need to test this guy to see how good he is with a sword. Let’s sword fight. Yep, you killed him because you lied about swords.”

It was the most middle of the road D+ show but it may be the worst written.

TheOtherOn

Even tho I liked the show but HTs pointed out some very obvious and lame stuff in the show. It's actually more funny to see some of the comments here suddenly declaring Honest Trailers to be not good anymore just because they FINALLY had the balls to criticize one of the MCU shows.

I will never forgive them for not having the balls to bash CRAptain Marvel tho. They were probably too scared to make fun of a female lead movie that made lots of money (thanks to the well placed release timing between Infinity Wars and End Game).
GameOn
GameOn - 1/19/2022, 9:28 AM
@TheOtherOn - I think you’re misunderstanding why everyone’s saying it sucks now. It’s not in defense of the MCU shows. It’s that we want them to be MORE harsh. They could dig deeper and be funnier while mocking these mediocre shows.

So it's the same as the last few marvel shows. Huge hit with overwhelming support from most audiences and critics, good action, and high viewership all the way through... These two guys didn't like it so it must be bad. I think they are just mad that the Netflix shows are officially mcu proper.
