Here's Why Fox Decided To Pass On That X-MEN TV Series Revolving Around The HELLFIRE CLUB

When Fox announced plans to bring the X-Men to the small screen, a series revolving around the Hellfire Club was said to be in the works. However, it didn't happen, and you can find out why that was here.

The Hellfire Club made its live-action debut in X-Men: First Class but the villainous group was set to return in a TV series alongside Legion and The Gifted. Unfortunately, the project fell apart back in 2016 and an explanation as to why has now been revealed. Essentially, it boils down to the fact the studio decided the comic book adaptation would have been way too expensive and far too complicated.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, producer Lauren Shuler Donner revealed that Hellfire never got off the ground simply because "it was too many characters and not enough depth of character."

It appears as if the large ensemble cast was off-putting to Fox and the lack of a sole lead meant they just couldn't get behind the series. Still, there's no denying that it's a shame the trigger wasn't pulled on this one as getting to explore the inner workings of this group and characters like Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost would have been great fun. It also doesn't sound like there are plans to resurrect it.

Could've been interesting, not a huge loss though in my opinion. There are other properties out there more suited for a series.

We need a good Emma frost after that travesty in first class.

I doubt Emma would have been in it, but it would have been amazing to explore the character of Selene.

Yeah people hate shows that are complicated with a lot of characters.

I don't know. I wouldn't say no to a Hellfire show, but then again there is the problem if it set in the film universe, what can they do. We've already seen their major plan in First Class.
I think when is comes to to shows, they should stick with what they are doing, drawing focus to relatively minor characters (that is to general audiences). A great example is Blink. She was really just an extra in DoFP, but now we get to explore her much more in depth in The Gifted,

Additionally, I wouldn't want major characters to be let out of the films. While, these "in universe" shows are great (I like that it's all connected), it basically excludes the characters from every appearing in the films again.
