Loki season 2 was packed full of surprises, but when it came to Variants, we didn't get to see anywhere near as many as in the first batch of episodes. Instead, we got to know those fan-favourite TVA agents in their past lives, including the newly introduced Ourobouros, a.k.a. OB.
He was a science-fiction writer before being recruited by He Who Remains, and newly revealed concept art reveals that OB nearly wore a completely different face.
"Concept art for Loki Season 2. Exploring Ourobouros being a variant of Mobius," artist Aleksi Briclot explains. "That’s obviously why I’ve played with [Owen Wilson's] likeness while altering it with this big red moustache. Mobius from another timeline."
"TVA orange classic color scheme with some hints of complementary colors...Vintage mechanic style...I had fun with the background trying to reflect the absurd bureaucratic aspect of the TVA offices," he concludes.
There being more than one Mobius within the TVA would have been something of a game-changer for the Disney+ series, though it's easy enough to understand why the idea was dropped; after all, we barely had a chance to spend time with those other Variants without throwing even more into the mix.
Theories originally ran rampant that OB might be a Kang Variant. However, Ke Huy Quan dismissed the idea when he said, "Honestly, you know, the reason why I love OB so much is he’s so pure. You know? He doesn’t think about anything but his job. He loves his job so much. And he approaches it with so much love and enthusiasm. I think it’ll be kind of sad to see him end up turning into a bad guy."
