LOKI Producer Victoria Alonso Promises That More LGBTQ+ Representation Is Coming To The MCU

We've been hearing this for a while now, but with Loki being confirmed as bisexual and gender fluid in the current Disney+ series, it does look like more LGBTQ+ representation is finally coming to the MCU.

Kevin Feige and other Marvel Studios execs have been telling fans that more LGBTQ+ representation is coming to the MCU for years now, but to what extent the Disney-owned brand would ever really be able to depict a same-sex relationship on screen was always up for debate.

We have begun to see some positive steps: Loki was confirmed as bisexual and gender fluid in the current Disney+ series, and Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) and his husband (Haaz Sleiman) will be introduced in Eternals. We also know that Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) will be searching for a queen to rule over New Asgard with in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Again, how much focus is placed on these relationships remains to be seen, but Marvel producer and EVP Victoria Alonso has once again assured fans that more representation is on the way while speaking in the red carpet at the Black Widow premiere in LA.

“It takes time, we have so many stories that we can tell," Alonso told Variety. "We will empower those that are. We're not changing anything. We're just showing the world who these people are, who these characters are."

"We're not going to nail it in the first movie or the second movie or third movie, or the first show or second show," she continued. "But we will do our best to consistently try to represent."

Alonso was also asked about the decision to make Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief bisexual, and admitted that she doesn't really see it as a "big deal."

“It is what it is when it suits the character," she said. "We’re not going to do it because it’s politically correct or incorrect. It is what it is. Don’t forget, we follow our comics. We try to follow them quite to the tee. So in the comics this is who he was.”

There are always going to be those who feel that "diversity for diversity's sake" is not the way to go, but the majority seem to be of the opinion that more representation can only be a good thing. What do you guys think? Drop us a comment down below.
