Last December, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Loki star Jonathan Majors was found guilty on one count of intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree by a New York jury.
That came after a March 2023 altercation with his then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. In April, Majors was sentenced to a 52-week, in-person domestic violence intervention program; however, he's continued to maintain his innocence.
Majors and Jabbari met while working on the Marvel Studios movie (she was a movement coach). Between the aforementioned guilty verdict and other allegations of physical and emotional abuse, the actor's Hollywood career stalled as did his aspirations to become one of the world's biggest movie stars.
Between his Marvel work and other critically acclaimed performances, that's the track Majors was on and it's unclear whether he'll ever be able to regain that lost momentum...and whether he should be allowed to do so.
One organisation that has faith in the actor is the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards. At their upcoming fourth annual event in Los Angeles on June 21, Majors will be presented with the "Perseverance Award."
That, per the organisation, is "given to an individual who has shown that no matter what adversity they face, they will continue to aspire to inspire."
Recent months have seen Majors make a handful of public appearances, typically on the red carpet alongside girlfriend and Shazam! star Meagan Good. What he says during his acceptance speech may shed new light on what he has planned moving forward.
As The Hollywood Reporter explains, the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards, founded by Hollywood Unlocked CEO and media personality Jason Lee, highlight recipient contributions across the music, film, media, political, social and creative industries to celebrate their accomplishments and contributions to the Black community.
Previous Impact Award honorees include Chlöe Bailey, Law Roach, Whoopi Goldberg, Babyface, Tupac, Catherine Brewton, Floyd Mayweather, Kelis, Karen Bass, and Lizzo.
Shortly after Majors was sentenced, his attorney, Priya Chaudhry, shared the following statement on the actor's behalf:
"It is clear that the jury did not believe Grace Jabbari's story of what happened in the SUV because they found that Mr. Majors did not intentionally cause any injuries to her. We are grateful for that. We are disappointed, however, that despite not believing Ms. Jabbari, the jury nevertheless found that Mr. Majors was somehow reckless while she was attacking him."
"Mr. Majors is grateful to God, his family, his friends, and his fans for their love and support during these harrowing eight months. Mr. Majors still has faith in the process and looks forward to fully clearing his name."
