LUKE CAGE Star Mike Colter Talks Possible Return To Power Man Role: "I'd Be Open To It, Yeah"

Luke Cage star Mike Colter has discussed the possibility of reprising the role of Power Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressing some enthusiasm for taking another crack at the Hero for Hire...

It's now been a few years since Luke Cage was cancelled by Netflix. While characters like Daredevil and Wilson Fisk have started finding their way into the MCU (played by the same actors), we don't currently know what the future holds in store for the rest of The Defenders.

Power Man is a character with a tonne of potential on the big or small screen, so we can't see Marvel Studios leaving him on the shelf for too long. Whether actor Mike Colter will return is hard to say, but the series went quickly downhill after those first six episodes, and it's hard to escape the feeling there might be a better actor than the 45-year-old to bring the Hero for Hire to life.

Regardless, Colter recently appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and weighed in on the chances of him playing the Marvel Comics superhero again.

"There is [a possibility], I guess, I just don't know how likely it is, and I don't have anything tangible to offer," he explained. "People always ask me, 'Is it possible?' and I'm like, 'Anything's possible'. They live on rumors and I go, 'I mean, you know as much as I know.' People read those articles, that's the exact same amount of information that I have."

"I'd be open to it, yeah. I mean I had a great time, and I've had a nice break from that much action, in terms of physical action, in terms of filming a superhero show," Colter said of a possible return. "So I'd be up for it again, but when I left I was pretty tired physically. It's like when you play a sport you need a little off-season. So it was fun to take a break, you know?"

As great as it's been to see Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio reprise their roles in the MCU, that doesn't mean everyone should be brought back from these Netflix shows. Colter did a great job with the material he was given, but casting a younger actor who can take Cage on a journey from vigilante to Hero to Hire and, eventually, an Avenger arguably makes the most sense.

What do you hope the future holds in store for Power Man in the MCU?

I feel like this phase of the MCU is just throwing darts at a dartboard and seeing what sticks. I miss the cohesiveness of the first 3 phases.

@JonAwesome - You are correct, especially phases 1 and 2 before they got rid of Perlmutter. For some reason he seemed to grant it some direction.

The movies now are all over the place and I don’t know at what they are aiming.

@JonAwesome - Phase 4 is the beginning of a new saga. The pieces are literally just being placed on the board. You’re not going to start seeing that cohesiveness you want until it starts coming together. Remember where rushing that cohesiveness got DC.

@JonAwesome -

This image is from 2019. And Feige already confirmed that they already have the next decade planned. Does that looks like Feige/Marvel Studios is throwing darts at a dartboard and seeing what sticks?

@Moriakum - If people don’t trust this man after delivering tenfold on the Infinity Saga, nothing will.

I think he'll be back. I don't think he'll get a show but i think he'll show up as a side character in some project. Then in a few years if they want to do something with Luke and Mike has aged out then it's not really a problem to recast at that point.

Would love a Daredevil episode where he's getting the old gang back together. Could see it lead up to a season finale in the Disney Plus show he's supposed to be getting.

I think that there is a pretty good chance of him coming back considering he post he made on Instagram recently with Kristen Ritter (unless he was just doing some master trolling lol).

@Superspecialawesomeguy - I thought the same thing but recently read an interview with him where he said he just ran into her at a park while doing something else.

Maybe a lie. Can never rule that out. But some added piece to the story nonetheless.

It ended on a cliffhanger. I hope they do bring him back, if only for few spots on another show. Favorite Netflix Marvel joint next to Daredevil.

I really liked Colter as Luke Cage. He had a nice charisma on the screen and played a smoldering volcanos well. At any moment he could erupt and destroy his world.

I would like the new show to have better stories though.

I hope he bulks up a bit more. I am all for him returning though. I feel like Mother's Milk has the ideal look/feel of Luke Cage.
