Michael Jai White Would Be Interested In Playing Luke Cage If The Script Was Good Enough

Jai White has long been a fan favorite to play the role and while speaking to CBR the talented actor/martial artist expresses interest, provided the movie had a good enough script...

Michael Jai White is no stranger to comic books and comic book movies. He played the title role of Spawn in the forgettable movie version and had a brief cameo as Gambol in The Dark Knight. The actor has also expressed interest in directing and acting in a Black Panther movie for Marvel. But the one character than most fans think White would be perfect for is Power Man himself; Luke Cage. In the following interview with CBR White responds to the question: "Are you aware that you are Luke Cage and Marvel just doesn't know it yet"..

He says he is aware of the fan demand for him to play the role and would be interested as long as it was done right and didn't "suck". He then goes on to discuss Black Dynamite , Spawn and working with Todd McFarlane.

Of course we have all heard of Marvel's plans for a Luke Cage movie but now that we know that character will be appearing in the AKA Jessica Jones Tv series what does that mean for those plans? Is it possible White could play Cage on the small screen instead? Do you guys still think he is a good fit for the role at all? Sound off below.

Actually I thought he did a decent job as Spawn, he wasn't the biggest problem. Everything else was. That movie even manged to make Martin Sheen seem crap. And I thought he was very good in TDK, sure it was a small role but he was effective. Plus did you see his cut cameo in Kill Bill? Hilarious..he has a bit of range. Not the greatest actor but still, with the right role who knows.

the rock would be a very good choice for luke cage.

Why is it that in both Spawn and TDK he seems to not like clowns.

I want to see Luke Cage but just not in a solo film. He needs to have Iron Fist, and it needs to be called Heroes for Hire or its a no go for me.

I won't say if he's right or wrong for the part, but I do think he's way too old for it.He's already 44.

He'd be a decent Luke Cage but he'd be a way better BISHOP!!!

He'd be a good Luke Cage, but I'd love to see him as Blade.

@Darkclaw0- I've been saying that since they announced the doomed Blade Tv series. If they reboot he should definitely get the part. As for him as Cage I can see it but I'd rather Boris Kodjoe ("RE:Afterlife") or The Rock could work. Elba is too old. The two guys that did their own little trialers' weren't mad. Isaiah Mustafa needs to bulk up though, the other guy needs more acting lessons.

I still think Terry Crews would make the best Luke Cage. I'm all for White playing Black Panther though.

"if the script is good enough"? He's trying to sound more important than he is. He'll do it to get paid if offered the role.

This is one of those characters that they can afford to f*cl up on the big screen...so go ahead and cast him.

Henry Simmons from nypd blue is still my top choice until proven otherwise.

MJW is PERFECT for Luke Cage/Blade/Black Panther!

Get the script crisp, let the man do his thing.

Also, Statham or Ryan Phillippe for Iron Fist!

Why does this guy think he’s still relevant? Hell I don’t think he was even anything outside of Spawn even back in those days.

Terry Crews is still the best choice. I don't care if he's too old. I read those 70's comics, then I watch Terry Crews and I see Luke Cage. Especially in Everybody Hates Chris, weirdly enough. That show is like a 'What If' story: Luke Cage: Family Man!

@Shaman I didn't notice that before but now that I see it he seems like a great choice!

I would rather see as the Black Panther; he's got more than enough martial arts expertise, he's a decent actor and I also think that it'll be pretty cool to have the first black superhero played by the first black actor to play a superhero (Spawn).

The man has nerve. If it doesn't suck? lol His acting is terrible and his career modest. I wonder how many takes Nolan had to put up with directing him in TDK. His idea of good acing is over-doing everything. Cartoonish hand gestures and facial expressions.

If Luke Cage plays like a comedy, he's the man. That's the ONLY way he could pull it off- if it was meant to be slighty comical and not to be taken too seriously.

If the script was good enough? get the eff out of here, as if the scripts of most of the crap he's done was good. If Marvel calls his only question would be how high does he have to jump.

I doubt Disney/Marvel will do a Luke Cage movie let alone a Black Panther movie.

They'll do Dr. Strange and sequels before even thinking about it.

@shaman what a shameless plug!!! i luv it lol

I'd go with terry crews, the man is funny as hell and his acting is good. I'm so tired of the rock, he cant be chosen for every muscular black role. Hollywood cant be lacking hot black men with acting skills
