We've been told that Moon Knight won't include classic members of the character's comic book supporting cast, but the premiere actually featured one of them hiding in plain sight (and we're not talking about Duchamp). After an eagle-eyed fan spotted "Crawley" in the show's credits, Head Writer Jeremy Slater confirmed that Shaun Scott was indeed playing Bertrand Crawley.
Portrayed as a sounding board for Steven Grant in the episode, this Crawley was painted up as a golden living statue somewhere in London. In the comic books, however, he first appeared in the pages of Marvel Spotlight #28 and was an informant for the unhinged Fist of Khonshu.
He'd usually lend a helping hand to Jake Lockley, guiding him through New York City's underworld. He was something of a flamboyant character, but we have a feeling this was meant to be a simple Easter Egg rather than a tease for a massive Crawley reveal in a future episode! Then again, with no sign of Jake in Moon Knight as of yet, some surprises could still be heading our way.
There will always be fans disappointed to see Marvel Studios take a character like this and turn them into an Easter Egg, but if Crawley has a legion of supporters, it would be news to us!
Speculation continues to run rampant that Jake will join Marc Spector and Steven in Moon Knight, though given how the latter has been reinterpreted, we don't know what to expect if it happens. On the page, he was a street smart cabbie who kept his ear to the ground in the Big Apple (you can't bank on the MCU following suit, as Steven was originally a Wall Street whiz and not a gift shop employee).
