There's now only one episode of Moon Knight left, and Marvel Studios has a lot to address in that final chapter. While Marc Spector's future beyond this Disney+ series remains a mystery to us, a new interview with Head Writer Jeremy Slater has revealed just how different the show could have been.
According to Slater, one very early idea for Moon Knight was to include Maya Lopez. "At the time, Echo was going to be our love interest, solely based on the fact that they knew Marvel liked the character of Echo and was trying to find a show to put her in," he recalls. "They were like, 'You know what, we’ve got this Hawkeye show and we feel like she would fit in a lot better there.'"
Needless to say, that Echo would have probably been vastly different to the one we met in Hawkeye last year. Making her a street-level vigilante feels like a much better fit for Maya, though.
During this same conversation, Slater confirmed that Moon Knight's biggest foe, Busman, was a top contender for the show's big bad before they settled on Arthur Harrow (it's previously been revealed that there were concerns he might be too similar to Black Panther's Erik Killmonger).
"Bushman was initially going to be the main villain," he says. "I thought he was going to be possessed by an Egyptian god by the end of it, and you’d have a big sort of avatar battle." That would have been fun, though we're anticipating seeing something similar from Harrow.
A new promo for Moon Knight has also been released teasing this week's finale. There are a few new snippets of footage here, and it looks like an intense battle with Arthur Harrow is on the horizon!
