Gravik is determined to unleash World War III on Earth, all in an effort to wipe out humanity and create a new home for the Skrulls.
In today's episode of Secret Invasion, the shape-shifter and his team pose as Russians and attack U.S. President Ritson. It's a smart way to pit the Americans and Russians against one another, but Nick Fury and Talos are thankfully there to intervene.
The latter is shot by one of Gravik's men, but still manages to pull the President from his vehicle and helps Fury get him to safety. However, the British soldier helping the wounded Talos is, in fact, Gravik, and he proceeds to brutally stab the heroic Skrull.
Talos falls to the ground, seemingly dead, and Fury puts a bullet into Gravik's chest and head. Alas, he brushes off those wounds with ease thanks to the healing properties of Extremis and makes his escape.
Fury has no other choice than to leave Talos behind, taking the President to safety.
So, is Talos really gone?
After the stunt Secret Invasion pulled with Gi'ah, we can't imagine this is yet another fake-out (if so, it will completely devalue the meaning of death in the show) and the heroic Skrull is almost certainly dead. The trailers showed Gi'ah mourning a fallen friend and, looking at her surroundings, we now know it's her father.
Given the way things ended between them at the start of "Beloved," this is going to hit her hard but likely means she'll be more determined than ever to put an end to Gravik's invasion of Earth.
Ben Mendelsohn first played Talos in Captain Marvel and later reprised the role in Spider-Man: Far From Home's post-credits scene when we learned he'd been posing as Nick Fury. There's been no word on him appearing in The Marvels, so chances are Secret Invasion is where his story ends.
