She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finally brings Jennifer Walters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and her debut is long overdue. Jessica Gao is serving as Head Writer on the Disney+ series, and in an interview with Slash Film, she looked back on some of her failed pitches to Marvel Studios.
One early idea included a Black Widow movie that would have featured the Sensational She-Hulk!
While she didn't elaborate on exactly how the movie was going to play out, the writer explains that it quickly became apparent to Marvel Studios that she was pitching a She-Hulk feature...that just so happened to include Natasha Romanoff.
"I was elated 'cause it was a dream job, But also, I'd been rejected by Marvel three times on previous projects. So, I was like, 'I guess fourth time is the charm," Gao recalls. "The very first project that I pitched at Marvel was for the 'Black Widow' movie. And I had She-Hulk in my pitch, but so much of She-Hulk in my pitch that somebody actually commented, 'It kind of feels like you're pitching a She-Hulk movie with Black Widow in it.'"
"Clearly, there was a reason why I didn't get that job," the writer continues. "I really do believe that all of that was for a reason, because ultimately, at the end of the day, the thing that I really wanted was 'She-Hulk' and those other projects weren't 'She-Hulk.'"
This would have been one heck of a team-up, though it's hard to picture how She-Hulk could have factored into a movie revolving around Black Widow. It's unclear what the plan for Jen is beyond this series, though the expectation is that she'll make the leap to the big screen. When that happens, we anticipate a lot of team-ups.
