Well, it seems we're going to have to wait a while longer for official confirmation that a new Punisher project is in development!
Last night, Rosario Dawson appeared to tease Frank Castle's imminent return during a panel at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo when she said she'd she heard "that The Punisher was happening again."
"So, I feel like it's my second chance, because that's the only one of the shows I wasn't in and I love Jon Bernthal," she added. "So, lets all make it happen collectively guys."
We assumed Dawson had been told about the revival by a source either involved with or close to the planned project, but The Mandalorian star has now taken to Twitter to clarify her comments, and she's claiming her info came from a fan during a signing.
Hmmm. Do we buy this, or did Dawson get a telling off from a higher-up at Marvel Studios and asked to walk back her comments? It's hard to be sure, but there are persistent rumors (though nothing concrete) that a new Punisher show is in the works.
Both Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio recently made the jump to The MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye, respectively, and Krysten Ritter is expected to follow-suit as Jessica Jones in either She-Hulk or Echo, so it does seem like quite a few of the Marvel Netflix actors are being given the opportunity to reprise their roles.
It is worth noting that Bernthal has previously stated that he'd only be interested in playing Castle again if he could be true to the gritty, violent nature of the character, so if a new Punisher series or movie is in development, there's a pretty good chance it'll be R-rated.
