WandaVision brought back Thor and Thor: The Dark World star Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, and we'd quickly learn that she's now a doctor. However, an earlier version of the series was set to explore more of her pre-Westview, post-Blip story, including scenes involving Darcy's grandmother!
In the show itself, Darcy just arrived at the Hex and requested an old TV set in order to tune into Wanda Maximoff's frequency, but things nearly played out quite a bit differently.
"In earlier drafts, there was more of Darcy before she gets to the hex," WandaVision Head Writer Jac Schaeffer tells Rolling Stone. "And as the project coalesced it made more sense to keep everything base-centric, except for S.W.O.R.D. headquarters. So we lost some of that other stuff. But it was really fun to write for Kat and to see a little bit more [of] what’s been going on with Darcy."
"We had this idea that Darcy didn’t blip, but her grandmother did," she continues. "And now her grandmother’s back and Darcy had pawned her old TV, so she has to go get the TV back. And when she plugs it in, Episode One pops up, and that’s how the broadcast is discovered. It was silly, it was too much of a detour. But that writing infused all the later writing for Darcy. We also jumped all over the opportunity to have her be a Ph.D. now. That was just delightful to write."
It would have been fun to see this, but it feels like it would have over-explained how Darcy tuned into the broadcast signal coming from Westview. Hopefully, the character will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the not too distant future, though we couldn't begin to speculate as to where that will be.
Do you think this subplot should have been included in WandaVision?
