Netflix Renews THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY For A 10-Episode Season 2 Of Dysfunctional Family Superheroics

Rumors were swirling over the weekend, and now Netflix has made it official. The live-action adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's The Umbrella Academy will be returning for a sophomore season.

Netflix is moving away from Marvel, striking new development deals with Mark Millar, Dark Horse Comics, IDW, and more indie comic creators.  So far, the move appears to be paying off as it seems that whatever metrics Netflix uses to determine whether a show is successful or not have deemed that a second season of The Umbrella Academy is warranted.

The Netflix comic book adaptation surprised many critics and fans, going on to secure a 76% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 62 Metacritic rating.

Steve Blackman will return as showrunner along with the original cast consisting of Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Justin Min, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, and Aidan Gallagher,

Way and Bá have previously confirmed that they've given Blackman and outline for how the ongoing comic series eventually concludes.

Filming for season 2 will begin this summer.

Netflix may wish to handle their PR, of both themselves and the actors they employ, a bit better going forward in the future because it was a real mess leading up to the renewal of this show. They even make a slight dig at this with the 'if anything happens to Five we riot' remark, which obviously is referencing comments that actor made last week.

Anyways, hope Season 2 is stronger than Season 1.

This is great news and the only thing that could make it better is if Netflix recasts Ellen Page with a different actress. She just felt off and even bland. I'm not sure if that is how Vanya Hargreeves is portrayed in the comic, but I just wasn't a fan of her in the show at all and think Netflix could find someone better.

@BlackIceJoe - "the only thing that could make it better is if Netflix recasts Ellen Page with a different actress."

She was the worst part of the season for me, she felt like she belonged on a different show.

@HeavyMetal4Life @BlackIceJoe - I wonder why the character meant to be the non-special, boring one came off as "bland" and like she didn't fit amongst the supers.

@Nebula - its a bit more than that. I hated her portrayal and acting and loathed scenes involving her. Didn't like how she was written either. As I said, she felt like she belonged on a different show.

@HeavyMetal4Life - her and Claus were my favorite characters so we have very different views on her character.

@noahthegrand - wow yeah we really do, lol. Klaus was my 4th favorite character, behind Hazel.

@noahthegrand - Klaus was easily the best part of season 1...

Kind of curious if the next season will follow the academy in their child iterations...

@HeavyMetal4Life - I'm with you Page was so dull, but to be fair I can't really stand her in anything. Klaus was okay at first but his shtick got tired real fast. Very happy for another season though, imo this was one of the best CB related shows so far this year.

@SuperManes - I've only seen her in a handful of things, I thought she was fine as Kitty Pryde, but I really despised her in this show.
I actually didn't enjoy Klaus until he goes to Vietnam, but I didn't like that they kept resetting his character development seemingly with each episode (or every other episode).

@HeavyMetal4Life - I also noticed the resetting character development episode to episode. He would have a break through and act more mature or sober or responsible, then the next episode he was back at it like nothing ever happened. That part bugged me but he was still my second favorite character. But unfortunately no matter how much I love him as Klaus, sadly I dont think ill ever love him in any role as much as I loved him as Nathan in Misfits. Twas the role he was born to play. I love Klaus because I see shades of Nathan in him, but he never goes full Nathan and to my own fault that's all I really want lol

Cool. Despite some poor dialogue, and a few fairly unnecessary side characters, I really enjoyed the first season.

Sweet. I really enjoyed Season 1, and after the next 2 months, this will be the next show/movie I am most looking forward to.
