OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Hayden Christensen Reveals What He Thought About Divisive STAR WARS Sequels

Hayden Christensen is certainly no stranger to starring in divisive Star Wars movies, and the Obi-Wan Kenobi actor has now shared his take on the sequels that drew an equally mixed response from fans...

The Star Wars prequels, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith, drew mixed reviews at the time they were released, but the hatred for them has somewhat intensified in the years since. While there's no denying that they featured some questionable performances and creative decisions, it definitely feels like the comments made about them are too harsh.

Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen is no stranger to that backlash as his work in those movies often came under fire. In fairness, he did his best with the material he had to work with, and the excitement surrounding Christensen's return in Obi-Wan Kenobi proves most fans did, in fact, embrace his take on Darth Vader during his formative years.

If you thought the Star Wars prequels were divisive, it's fair to say the reaction doesn't compare to the response to the sequels. The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker all came under fire for various reasons, but it turns out Christensen is a fan of those movies. "I really enjoyed the sequel trilogy," he admitted during an interview with Kakuchopurei (via SFFGazette.com). "I think it was great the way that they honoured this character."

"I really enjoyed sort of everything they’ve been up to with and it was fun for me to just go back to being a fan, and watch these stories like everybody else."

Christensen's comments echo those of many Star Wars fans, though it's interesting that he's mostly referring to the role Darth Vader played in the movies. There was a time that Lucasfilm planned to bring the actor back to play a Force Ghost, though The Rise of Skywalker confirmed that Kylo Ren had never actually communicated with his grandfather (it was Emperor Palpatine the whole time).

Vader's post-Return of the Jedi status is sure to be addressed in some manner down the line, and when those stories are told, we're hopeful that Christensen will be involved in some way.

Obi-Wan Kenobi's first two episodes premiere on Disney+ this Friday, May 27.

The way they botched star wars sequel trilogy was legendary bad.

This is my ranking of franchise fails:🙆

1. Star wars sequel trilogy- this comes in at number 1 because you can't even reboot it. Everything has to stay Canon 🥲

2. DCEU- the first time batman, superman and wonder woman on screen and it's dog poop but atleast you can reboot 😀

3. Terminator series- this franchise has had more chances than a bad boyfriend after a night out with the boys💁

4. Predator series- this series has had more chances than a bad girlfriend after her "workout" with her "trainer"😕

Could retcon that stuff, franchises have retconned movies before. Will they though? probably not

Yup, its been 80% crap,

should have only been a trilogy, first two films and a war prequel (with james cameron directing)

check this out, its good and its with the original john connor actor (from war scenes)

should check this out

Yup, new movie has potential but they should really bring arnold back

@dracula - if they set movies a 1000 years in the future and have Jedis around. I’ll pretend that is episode VII in my head canon.

dracula - 5/27/2022, 12:13 AM
@TheSuperMex - Thats what i want for the next trilogy, either something set 1000 years after return of the jedi or 1000 years before phantom menace, tell a story in this universe completely disconnected from the skywalker family and the palpatine family
TheSuperMex
TheSuperMex - 5/27/2022, 12:17 AM
@dracula - I want a six film series about the old republic during a war between the Jedi and Sith. Have the last movie be about Darth Bane killing off the remaining Sith and creating the rule of two.

I feel like star wars had to have a plan for the trilogy but instead they let each director do their own thing story wise and that was just a recipe for disaster.

I know marvel gets alot of crap now for having a cohesive universe but story wise it's just for the best. Is ridley Scott less of a director because he directed Alien which was written and planned before he got on board? Of course not!

You have to have a plan before you enter a universe or make a trilogy that's connected with each other. It's just simple but they failed miserably.

As far as recent franchises go I think it has alot to do with streaming and other forms of entertainment like tik tok and YouTube.

Auidences have changed. Hollywood isn't the only form of entertainment anymore so studios go with more of a sure thing like pre established IP.

A big problem is studios hiring writers and directors to revive franchises. You have to get someone that loves the IP and has a new take on it. Not someone hired to make up some shit to get a paycheck. That's how you get the halo tv series and star wars sequel trilogy 🥲
