"Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to."

As the official Star Wars Twitter account continues to promote Star Wars-inspired posters from various established artists, this latest effort from Chris Skinner depicts a much-talked about moment from the second The Rise of Skywalker trailer.

The image sees Rey and Kylo Ren (inadvertently?) destroying the plinth holding all that remains of Ben Solo's grandfather, Darth Vader, as they clash lightsabers in what will likely be their final battle.

Check out the poster along with the previously released character banners by clicking the view list button below, and let us know what you think. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters in just over a week.

Did we ever get an explanation on why Kylo Ren's lightsaber is the way it is?

@Kman - I'm assuming he tried to bleed his own kyber crystal and damaged it so he needed to use the older lightsaber design with the exhaust ports at the end of the hilts.

@Kman - I’m sure the books explain he built the lightsaber, but it was so unsteady that it’s spits out the beam part. Kylo liked it so much because it reminded him of himself, so kept it.

@Kman - i thought it was shown in tfa , how he burned fin with it during battle, combat tool i guess .... cause i don't remember them explaining anything else on it .

@knocturnalzen10 - Like why does it seem unstable? OR less clean of a blade compared to the normal lightsaber?

@BlackBeltJones - lol sounding like the most plausible answer at this point

@Kman - i have no idea K ... when i re-watched a month ago nothing was mention and i could only see one clear purpose of them during battle when he had fin backed against the tree .... it does seem unstable , and i'm only guessing but it's supposed to represent Kylo's unbalance ...

One thing I've not thought about is whether or not JJ would actually try and do anything thematically with this one. So much of his plotting (and most Star Wars plotting) is super AB plotting with little to no dramatic throughline. Johnson went from 0 to 100 on that front, and JJ has an opportunity like Johnson to be able to say something more here
