Fired THE MANDALORIAN Star Gina Carano On Being Dropped From STAR WARS Series: "I Cried And Cried"

Gina Carano has weighed in on Disney/Lucasfilm's decision to fire her from The Mandalorian back in 2021 after a series of controversial social media posts...

Gina Carano is speaking about the events that led to her being dropped from The Mandalorian for the first time since filing her lawsuit against Disney.

Carano, who played Din Djarin's loyal ally Cara Dune in the first two seasons of the Disney+ Star Wars series, was fired by Lucasfilm in 2021 for what were deemed to be a series of "abhorrent" social media posts.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future," said Lucasfilm's statement at the time. "Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The former MMA fighter's posts had been the source of controversy for quite some time before the studio took action, but inferring that being a Republican today is comparable to being Jewish during the Holocaust appeared to be the final straw for Disney.

Carano was given multiple opportunities to delete her posts and submit an apology, but declined.

Now, in a lengthy THR piece, Carano has addressed the situation in more detail.

“I just laid down and cried and cried,” Carano recalls. “I curled into a fetal position. It’s not that I didn’t think that something like that could happen. It was that I couldn’t imagine they would put out this horrendous statement about me after working with me — the most powerful entertainment company in the world saying that about me.”

Somewhat ironically after the reaction to Carano's more incendiary posts, she believes it was actually her decision to add the words “Boop/bop/beep” to her social media profiles after being asked to support trans rights by listing her pronouns that landed her in the most hot water and, according to the actress, ultimately got her fired.

“Boop/bop/beep?” she asked incredulously when thinking back to the incident. “Seriously? This was the start of the end for me? A 20-year career, the blood, sweat and tears of fighting? I never compromised myself for a job. I never ended in a bad situation where I did anything inappropriate. I had a clean and clear climb to where I got to and was going to just keep going. And boop/bop/beep was that harmful?”

Carano says she doesn't regret her actions, however, and is currently suing Disney and Lucasfilm for discrimination and wrongful termination in the hopes of being reinstated as Cara Dune(?).

“You won’t find a perfect person in me, but you will find a person who was doing her absolute best under one of the most aggressive unnecessary cancellations in Hollywood history,” she concludes. “This has been one of the toughest growth spurts of my life and I don’t plan on wasting what I have learned.”

What do you make of Carano's comments? Do you think she was unfairly fired in the first place, or is she simply reaping what she sowed? Be sure to share your thoughts down below.

It wasn't just one thing. It was a number of objectionable statements over a period of time that persisted after the Mothership asked her to tone it down.

Disney really cares a lot about women/they/theirs feelings until they got opposing political views lol

@Matchesz - I mean isn't that the ideal. You should judge/care less about how a person looks, and more about the moral/merit of their character

You posed this as if it's a negative thing lol

@Vigor - I mean I agree, but she was expressing herself freely and openly not sending out death threats. She put “beep/bop/boop” in her bio and they got triggered thinking she’s mocking something which i think a majority of us would agree is silly anyway, shes said she has nothing agains trans at all.

This argument is double-sided. On the one hand I have zero sympathy for her actions because she was fully aware of what she said. On the other hand this cancel/culture era that we live in is absolutely pathetic and nonsensical. Corporations are full of crap as much as the people they hire or employ. I keep thinking about James Gunn and how he made a tweet back in 06 that was discriminative towards homosexuals. He got fired from Disney a few years back because of said tweet, then as soon as Warner Bros acquired his services, Disney wasted no time in rehiring him for the final guardians movie. Hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me. As for Gina, I’m sure she can find work else where, she will just have to settle for a pay cut. 😆

@TheMetaMan - I still think on the tweet he made about joking of how because laughter was a good medicine that's why he always laughed at people with AIDS and...I've been side-eyeing him since then.

There was also pressure from the Guardians cast to add in this. But what he did was extremely dumb and he better be saying his prayers every single day since being re-hired after that.

She must have been pretty out of touch to even suspect she wouldn't suffer financially for making some of the comments she made.

Every public figure and star should have known several years ago to be very mindful of what they state in public.

I remember, when I first read her infamous comments, thinking, "What the f#ck was she thinking?"

Nothing that happened to her as a result of what she stated surprised me at all.

@WhateverItTakes - She said "Beep boop bop". Literally that's what she said. Those three words.

(when asked to put her gender identity in there)

Disney are [frick]ing BeepBoopBopPhobes. Let it be known. They do not respect a Beep/Boop/Bop persons right to self identity. These are the times we are faced in.

Rise up brothers, sisters, them people and Boopers! The time is now! March on Disneyland! Naruto the gates in V masks! The revolution has begun! THIS IS FOR GINAAAAAA!

Boop.

I would be hella empathetic if Disney/Lucasfilm hadn’t apparently told her to stop the controversial media posts but she didn’t listen so she did it to herself imo…

Atleast she can take solace in that I think Cara was her best performance of her short lived acting career of the little work of her I’ve seen (she was terrible in F &F 6 and fine in DP)…

She saved her best for last lol.

He was [frick]ing amber heard and putting up her legal fees with the whole johnny trial. Soo....I'm gonna call bullshit on that part

She is clueless if she thinks a court can force Disney to put her in projects

Peter Jackson sued over Lord of the rings video games thats why for a long time he wasnt going to direct The Hobbit (probably would have been much better if it was made in 2005 like planned)

David ducovony sued over something X files, thats why he was barely in season 8 and 9

Etc

No actor has sued a studio and kept or regained a role

@Izaizaiza - I didn't see it before she deleted it, but Newsweek and Hollywood Reporter both mention it in their reporting. They wouldn't run something like that without confirmation for risk of opening themselves up to costly libel lawsuit.

I'm sure every single one of us works for a company that we disagree with time to time.

But I think all of us know that we have to be careful about what we say if we value our employment. It sucks, really it does. But this is life unfortunately. We're free to say what we will, but we can't pretend that a company that is about profits, is going to take the chance of an employee messing with those profits.

I've seen guys at my work fall on their sword for flying off the handle, warning after warning, to then lose their job. They always regret it, but most of the time it's just too late.

If she does somehow win this case, I still don't see it restoring anything she feels she lost minus maybe the money. Hollywood most likely still won't want to work with her, because now she's more of a liability than ever. But crazier things have happened.
