After a very impressive season premiere, the second episode of The Mandalorian, titled "The Child," continues to track the journey of our masked antihero (Pedro Pascal) and his newly acquired "asset."
It's another highly enjoyable installment, and while it may not provide any solid answers or progress the main story any further (Mando only gets off the planet at the very end), we do get confirmation of one major theory relating to the infant creature that's been dubbed "Baby Yoda."
After escaping from a trio of Trandoshan bounty hunters and losing vital parts of his ship to a band of Jawas, The Mandalorian enlists Kuil's (Nick Nolte) help to trade with the desert scavengers. They agree to return his ship's components in return for... the egg! As you probably guessed, this involves Mando retrieving an egg from the nest of a very dangerous creature.
As skilled a warrior as our stoic hero may be, the rhino-like beast overpowers him, and is just about to deliver the killing blow when Baby Yoda levitates the creature just long enough for Mando to slay it with a blade. Yes, the cutest alien in the galaxy is indeed force-sensitive. In fact, he seems to have already honed his abilities to some degree - even if he does require a long nap after using them.
Does this mean the child is a clone of Jedi Master Yoda, or is Force-Sensitivity simply something that's common to his species? We'll have to wait until next Friday for more answers, but in the meantime be sure to share your theories and let us know what you thought of this episode in the comments.
