THE MANDALORIAN: Jon Favreau Confirms That A Familiar Droid Will Make An Appearance In The Disney+ Series

The Mandalorian continues to deliver plenty of surprises, as following the news that IG-88 will be making an appearance in the show, another familiar droid has been confirmed for the Disney+ series...

Executive producer and director Jon Favreau remains hard at work on The Mandalorian and the filmmaker has now revealed the inclusion of yet another character from the classic Star Wars franchise. It's already been confirmed that The Empire Strikes Back's IG-88 will appear in the series that's set after Return of the Jedi, but are you ready to see more of R5-D4?

As you may recall, we first met the droid on Tatooine when Luke Skywalker and his Uncle Owen purchased him from the Jawas.

Unfortunately, he malfunctioned and they instead bought R2-D2 (changing the Galaxy's history forever). Whether this is just a cameo for hardcore fans or the droid somehow survived his experience on Tatooine and will thereby play a key role here remains to be seen, but it's clear that The Mandalorian isn't going to ignore what's come before despite having a new cast of characters.

There are bound to be more surprises in the Disney+ show and a first look will probably come our way during Star Wars Celebration in April. What do you guys think of this latest reveal?

We don't need everything to be connected by the thinnest possible thread. It's been said a thousand times but; it just makes the Star Wars universe seem smaller.

@ShaggyCipher - That's 100% the worst moment of Rogue One. Even worse than the interrogator-octopus. You're just left thinking "hang on, was that? What does that mean? This isn't even Tatooine."

Honestly Favreau can sell me anything and I'll take it. This might be one of the Star Wars projects I really looked forward to in years (let's just hope I'm not wrong in hindsight for being hyped)

I like it. Having images from the first Star Wars wouldn’t just be about an Easter egg. It also helps tie the new series back to where it all began. And that’s a good thing.

The Skywalker saga was supposed to also be about 3PO and R2. They’re just as important to this thing we have come to love as John Williams is. Reducing them to cameos for the recent films was a big mistake.

How many times do you think that little droid has been bought and sold over the years? I know the odds are very high that the droid even got off Tatooine, but here he is.

Skippy the Jedi Droid! He didn't malfunction. He suicided because he had a vision of the fate of the galaxy hinging on R2 being the chosen droid. In the comic, he became force sensitive because midichlorians grew in his oil.

At least it's not C3P0 and that piece of junk Anthony Daniels to portray him. This may just be the first live-action Star Wars adaptation to not feature C3P0, and that's some good f'n news IMO.

Okay....
Why would I watch anything else STAR WARS while it's being made by the people who gave us The Last Jedi and continue to insist that it's canon, despite the horrible things it did with Luke? Lucasfilm, fix THAT or go away. I'd go away, but I'm still irate. So I'll voice it on these stories. Maybe it will do some good. I learned it certainly does no good to GIVE UP in the face of adversity.

See here's what's wrong. Luke is wrong. Forever now. Luke is wrong forever. I mean, the Luke who was in The Last Jedi, isn't the real Luke. It can't be. They screwed the character up, very obviously, to most Star Wars fans. The arc that was solid for that character was tossed away, forgotten, killed, and they didn't have to. They WANTED TO.

I wonder if Tag and Bink will ever show up in the Disneyverse of Star Wars?
