This week's episode of The Mandalorian kicks off with Din Djarin and Grogu making their way to Tython so The Child can reach out through the Force and hopefully find a Jedi willing to train him. As the bounty hunter gets his ward to use his powers with that knob from inside the Razor Crest, he's clearly emotional about potentially having to say goodbye...and it's then the title card comes on screen with the words, "The Tragedy." Brace yourselves, folks, because this is a tough one.

Placing Grogu on top of the rock Ahsoka Tano told him about, Din is confused when nothing happens. However, upon noticing a ship heading to their location - it's Slave I - he turns back to see that The Child is surrounded in an energy field as he meditates and seemingly communicates through the Force. The Mandalorian is unable to break through that barrier, so has no other choice than to see who was aboard that ship. Coming face to face with Boba Fett (as he appeared in "The Marshal"), he learns that the armour he retrieved from Cobb Vanth belongs to this man. Upon realising Fett never took the creed, however, he refuses to return it, but then learns that Fennec Shand has a rifle trained on Grogu and will gun him down if necessary.

Shocked to see she's alive, Din removes his jetpack as the trio all agree to put their weapons down. Before they can say any more (Fett briefly talks about fate intervening to save both him and Fennec, with the latter now outfitted with cybernetics where she was shot - she owes Boba her life), a ship full of Imperial Stormtroopers land on the planet.

A massive gunfight follows, though Din is knocked out after trying to break through that Force barrier surrounding Grogu. As Fennec fends off the troopers, Fett makes his way into the Razor Crest and emerges with his armour once again. Showing why he was once one of the best bounty hunters in the Galaxy, he makes short work of those Stormtroopers and the trio eventually drive them from the planet...only for Fett to blast both their ships from the sky. While all this is happening, The Child finishes communicating through the Force and passes out; someone out there must now know of his existence. It looks like the day is won, but it's then that a missile from the sky falls to the surface and obliterates the Razor Crest. It's gone. Moff Gideon is aboard his Arquitens-class command cruiser, and dispatches four Dark Troopers to retrieve The Child. They do so with ease - without his jetpack, Din can't get there in time - and take to the skies with Grogu in hand. They're 100% droid, and not a hybrid as some fans theorised.

After Din learns that Fett's father, Jango, was a foundling, he agrees that Boba's armour is rightfully his. He and Fennec, meanwhile, vow to help him retrieve The Child as they previously agreed to protect him in return for that armour (this version of Fett isn't the villain from the original trilogy; he's the complex anti-hero from The Clone Wars). Aboard Slave I, they head to Nevarro where Din catches up with Cara Dune. She's working for the New Republic now, but because she cares for The Child, is willing to give him the information he needs to break out ex-Imperial sharpshooter Mayfeld; Din needs him to get the Force-sensitive being back, a surprise given how things ended between them in season one's "The Prisoner." Back on Gideon's ship, the villain walks into Grogu's prison cell to see him using the Force to throw around some Stormtroopers. Of course, he eventually tires, and it's then the villain taunts him with the Darksaber before having him stunned and put in shackles.

He wants his second in command to reach out to cloner Dr. Pershing to let him know they have their "donor." Something tells us Grogu's blood is about to be used to try and bring back Emperor Palpatine...

@Nightwing1015 - Wilding had “Slave II” in his 47 posted articles for this weeks episode...Managed to get my comment in and apparently get him to proofread his stuff, albeit after the fact...

Great episode though a little short in my opinion.

From the get go and the title I knew exactely how this episode was gonna play out and all I could think is that Mando really should have just stayed put at the seeing stone, but oh well now they'll have to rescue Grogu with an awesome team up which is nice.

I know it's because the actor didn't play him originally but I somehow really dig a slighlty bulkier Boba Fett with Temuera properly inside the armor.

Loved the return of Fennec as a cyborg and RIP Razor Crest. ;(

The fighting and location in general did seem a little fan-film-y though, that being said the action was still solid.

Dark Troopers looked phenomenal and Moff Gideon is intimidating the more we see of him. Giancarlo really makes you appreciate a good bad guy in the Star wars universe.

I also speculated what that badge was that Carson gave Cara at the end of episode 4, turns out it's a sherrif star, go figure.

I take it next week is gonna be a prison break to get Mayfield and he joins the gang and than the last episode is them trying to get Grogu from Gideon. I say try because I think this season will end Empire Strikes Back style with the bad guys winning.
Early prediction.

All in all great all around
8.5/10

@SpaceAgent - I will be calling Boba Fett Boba Thicc till I die......that said he looked great. That extra mass makes him look more compelling to me for some reason

@MrCamw1 - Fett in in Swedish literaly means fat - like the substance, not the description.

(Also used as kind of wordfor"bad ass" or "cool".)

End of useless information.. lol

Alot happend story wise, rip razorcrest, but considering it was directed Robert Rodriguez it looked a little 90s star trek, compared to last week.

I like how they #subvertedourexpectations by having Boba team-up with Mando instead of fighting just to see who is the coolest.

overall great episode and an neverending series of "oh f*ck" moments. like it starts out with this nice wholesome moment between Mando and Grogu and then the title drops: "The Tragedy". that's the first "oh f*ck", then Boba arrives (oh f*ck!"), his partner has Grogu at gunpoint ("oh f*ck"), then the imperials show up ("oh f*ck"), the Razor Crest blows up ("oh f*ck, no!") then the dark troopers (oh f*ck!!!"), they kidnap him ("oh f*ck" one more time), and finally Gideon stuns him ("f**********ck").

but you just know, that beacon he sent wasn't for naught, a Jedi is gonna show up probably in the season finale of at the end of the next one to help rescuing him, and if it's not Ahsoka then it's up in the air who could be............wouldn't it be great if it was Luke?

Honestly, a much better recap than mine!

I'm thinking of a great season finale. Something similar to this, but with Djarin and Boba fighting together.

Also, Luke's X-Wing appearing at the end of the episode.

@Repian - Bro, if we get the x-wing... Wow. yooooo, imagine if it's the FALCON, maybe a bit much, but still.

@KnifeWasTooSlow - Luke leading an airstrike at the end of the episode, destroying Gideon's troops

I just want to know, HOW DOES IT KEEP GETTING CRAZIER?!?!?! Seriously, we've had 0 breather episodes this season, it just keeps amping up. wonderful.

And I know it's coming, like, Grogu SOOOO connected with someone, a Jedi will arrive JUST in time, and it will be the coolest thing ever.

Also, that tiny moment of Mando laughing, wow, that was so cool, I feel he's becoming much more relaxed, letting his true personality shine through that armor, which is so cool cause we never see his face, and still get to read his emotions. This is such a special show.

@KnifeWasTooSlow - as a Rebels fan, I'd love to see Ezra show up to save the day with Grogu.

I'll be in the minority, but I do like the shorter episodes. Forces the writers/directors to not pussy foot around. Solid episode, and was happy to hear a bit more background on Jango. That bastard Moff Gideon better get his ass whooped by the finale!

@JoeInTheBox - [frick]ing Kyle Katarn! I was thinking when I first watched TFA, that Finn was gonna be the new Kyle. But no. They proceeded to waste him.

That whole ground battle sequence felt kinda… cheap? It reminded me of an early Power Rangers episode. It was in that moment that I knew that Robert Rodriguez directed it.
aurorsand146
aurorsand146 - 12/4/2020, 7:32 AM
@santoanderson - Yeah, sadly it did. I know stormtroopers aren’t well-known for their fighting abilities but the fact that that many stormtroopers couln’t do any damage was weird, and that one stormtrooper that just stays on the path of the boulder shooting at it instead of dodging it was downright cartoonish. Other than that it was a good episode.
