THE MANDALORIAN Season 3 Synopsis Teases Din Djarin's Mission And The New Republic's Battle With The Empire

Earlier this month at CCXP in Brazil, it was confirmed that The Mandalorian returns to Disney+ for its third season on March 1, 2023. The news was welcomed by fans eager to return to this corner of the Galaxy Far, Far Away, and assuming we're getting another eight chapters, these episodes will take us right through to the end of April.

Season 2 wrapped up all the way back in December 2020, though Din Djarin and Grogu both returned in The Book of Boba Fett, stealing the show from the title character.

Reunited after a brief separation, the duo's hunt for a Jedi has reached its end. Now, we expect the focus to shift to Mandalore as Din - now the rightful wielder of the Darksaber - likely finds himself tasked with retaking the planet for his people.

However, a newly released plot synopsis (shared via SFFGazette.com) offers a better idea of what role the New Republic is going to play in the show.

"The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue," it reads. "Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history."

"The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together."

It sounds like we can expect to see more of the heroic group's efforts to help the Galaxy move on from the shadow cast by the Empire, no easy task when you have someone like Moff Gideon - now in a New Republic prison - still trying to further their goals. Don't forget that Ahsoka will also reveal that Grand Admiral Thrawn is still out there!

If the first two seasons proved anything, it's that we can expect some huge surprises, and we do hope that more of Grogu's past will be explored (including who saved him in the Jedi Temple). We're also keen to learn what cloning operation Gideon was working on, why he needed The Child for his mystery plan, and whether that all ties into Supreme Leader Snoke's creation and the rise of The First Order.

As noted, The Mandalorian season 3 premieres on Disney+ on March 1.

@McMurdo -
Dude is trying to expand the brand. It's a worthy endeavor but, yea, just serve your audience well and you will generate plenty of clicks.

So far most media (except written and comic media) haven't explored it really, so think it would be great to see more New Republic stuff.

@bobevanz - there are some early books that I really like. Especially some one from the Road to The Force Awakens were interesting.

I feel like bringing back Grogu in a different tv show when it was so monumental to the Mandalorian finale was a misstep

They connected Mando directly to the sequels. I lost interest in this. I hope it and the rest of these Disney products fail now and maybe another company could get them and start over with a better story and characters.
