With the sheer amount of top quality content coming to the various streaming platforms, piracy is an inevitability, and fans of Disney+'s The Mandalorian won't be surprised to hear that the mega-popular live-action Star Wars series was the most pirated show of 2020.
The first season of The Mandalorian was only the third most downloaded series of 2019, but thanks to a sophomore run which featured the live-action debuts of Ahsoka Tano, Bo-Katan and the return of Boba Fett, the show blasted to the top of 2020's list. The second season of Amazon's The Boys came in second, while HBO's Westworld landed third.
Game of Thrones routinely claimed the top spot over the course of its run, but that obviously changed with the airing of the show's eighth and final season in 2019.
2020's top three shows are all from different streaming services, which means three separate subscriptions would be required to watch. Since not everyone can afford those costs, this goes some way towards explaining why piracy has become such a problem - and with a multitude of new Star Wars and Marvel-based series on the horizon, that's not likely to change anytime soon.
