David O. Russell's Uncharted Script No Longer Being Used For The Movie

Now yesterday I reported that director David O. Russell stepped down as the director for Sony's adaption of the popular video game franchise Uncharted, but now they won't use any part of Russell's script due to them hating his vision just as much as the fans of the game series. Also potential star Mark Wahlberg MAY be exiting as well....

Now that David O. Russell's exit is finalized, fans have rejoiced that the man who was going to make the Uncharted video game adaption a family fueled adventure/drama was no longer making the anticipated film. But even if a director exits, it is not unheard of for studios to still use any script left behind (ex. David O. Russel exited Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, but they will still be using his script even with new director Craig Gillespie).

Well LA TIMES 24 FRAMES BLOG is reporting that Sony will be starting with an earlier draft of the script, and hiring new writers:

"Russell had already turned in a script, but it was a script so long and so ambitious that it was at least partly responsible for the studio and him parting ways, according to two people familiar with the situation who were not authorized to talk about it publicly.

"Among the many flourishes Russell had added were a bevy of characters not in the video game. (The director had given hints of this in December when he said he loved the idea of a “a family that's a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities ... [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice.” The game centers on a lone adventurer, Nathan Drake.)"

The studio will be on the hunt for new writers to work of an earlier (and hopefully more faithful) script done by the two writers behind this August's reboot of Conan The Barbarian.

Also fear not fans, because the movie may also ditch Wahlberg too, the actor was expected to take the lead role due to a partnership and friendship with Russell, though being considered by many fans to be wrong for the role. Which means fan's choices like Nathan Fillion, Jensen Ackles, and Josh Holloway are still POSSIBILITIES.

But thanks for looking out man.

I always say if you want to make people happy try to stick somewhat close to the source material. You can add or change things but don't try to rebuild the wheel.

This is definitely for the best, it needed a desperate recast anyways.

In Stargate Atlantis Joe Flanigan looks, acts, sounds, and has the same smart ass attitude as Nathan Drake from the games. He would be perfect for the part IMO

Video game movies suck 9 times out of ten. Video game publishers are making their games more and more cinematic to where adapting them to movies won't even be necessary one day. They're already getting big names to voice game characters.

I love fanly death threats, lol. We won... so far. Why don't they just take the original writers of the game? Ugh, still so stupid. Or damn, at least Goyer.. (~.~)

Good!:) His idea sounded too much like National Treasure!

Russell is good film maker but he would have ruined this movie!

If they are going to get big star for the lead role and probably they will so the movie sales!
I think Jake Gyllenhaal would be great choice as Drake. He has looks and the presence needed for the role and also is [frick]ing great in acting. If someone older i would say Ben Affleck but Jake is my number one choice. Another is Chris Evans.

Cast:
Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Evans or Ben Affleck as Nathan Drake
Bruce Campbell or William Hurt as Sully
Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel or Sarah Carter as Elena Fisher
Emily Blunt, Gemma Arterton or Lena Headey as Chloe Frazier
Michael Fassbender or Jack Davenport as Harry Flynn
Terence Stamp or Alan Dale as Gabriel Roman
Edgar Ramirez or Benjamin Bratt as Atoq Navarro
Ray Stevenson as Zoran Lazarevic
Anthony Hopkins or Christopher Plummer as Karl Schaefer

Good thing this idiot left the project. And who the [frick] thought it was a good idea to cast Marky Mark as Nathan Drake? Are the other members of the Funky Bunch gonna have roles in the movie too? Gimme a [frick]ing break.

I'm all for the stargate route. Joe Flannigan for Drake because it would be a crime not to cast him. Also he pretty much auditioned for this role in the Atlantis episode "Quarantine." Also there's no reason that Claudia Black shouldn't play Chloe. She still looks young enough.

Joe Flanigan for Nathan Drake! He's the best choice by far.

AlexDeLarge87 - 5/28/2011, 8:46 AM
Jake Gyllenhaal would be great!:) He doesnt looks exactly like Nate but he has the presence and acting ability for the role. Plus he is pretty known star so it could be very possible that it happens.

AxleDeLarge87@ - As the Chloe character's Australian, either Claudia Black (who voices her in the games) or Peta Wilson should be thought of for the role. Both are great Aussie actors and both have a history of playing action roles.
Scion
Scion - 5/28/2011, 8:59 AM
Nathan Fillion or Josh Holloway, either would make me very happy. Seeing Halloway in Community's season finale was not enough. Need more Sawyer! I'm a huge Boreanaz fan but his build is too big. He's look weird with some weight loss.

And I can't stand Ackles. His career will go nowhere. He's boring. He has zero celebrity status after being on the WB for ages. Not marketable. If he was, he would have been scooped up a long time ago for something good. After supernatural he should just go join a soap opera, if any still exist at that that point.
