EDITORIAL: Top 10 Super Heroes Rocksteady Could Focus On In Future Video Games

10. Green Lantern

So far Green Lantern has only had one solo game called "Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters" which was developed as a tie-in for the Green Lantern movie. Other than this Green Lantern has starred in Justice League games, or games about the DC Universe in general. So, what if Rocksteady took their games to the cosmic side of the DC Universe by focusing on the Green Lantern Corps. Also, I think it would be cool for each video game to focus on a different Green Lantern each facing a different enemy. For example, the first game could have Hal Jordan fighting the Sinestro Corps, then the second game could have John Stewart fight either the Red Lanterns or Fatality, then Kyle Rayner could fight the Star Sapphire Corps, and in a grand finale they could all come together to fight a major cosmic threat like Parallax or the Black Lantern Corps.

9. Flash

With a Flash TV series being developed Warner Bros. could take this opportunity to expand Flash into this type of media. Like with the Green Lantern series Rocksteady could focus on a different Flash each game, or just make Barry Allen or Wally West the star of the series and they could fight such villains as Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold, and the Rogues. Either way I think it would be cool to see the Scarlet Speedster brought to life in his own game.

8. Green Arrow

Another DC character whose TV show is a hit at the moment is Green Arrow. Like with Flash, Warner Bros. could make this an opportunity to expand this hit character into the video game world. In this series Green Arrow can face such villains as Deathstroke, Deadshot, and Dark Archer among others.

7. Aquaman

From the expanse of space to the depths of the ocean we go with an Aquaman series. The primary reason I would want this hero to get his own video game is that I think it would be cool to see Aquaman use sharks, killer whales, giant octopi, among others as he fights the forces of such foes as Ocean Master and Black Manta. However, I was thinking that this movie could be a power move that is used after defeating 10 or 20 enemies. Also even though Aquaman has both of his hands now in the comics I would want it where Aquaman has his hook that can you use to grab far away enemies and draw them to himself in order for the player to lay some awesome combos on them.

6. Wonder Woman.

Batman is the first member of the so-called Trinity to get his own game series, so I was thinking a second member of the Trinity could get their own game series. In sixth place is the member of the Trinity I like the least: Wonder Woman. The great thing about Wonder Woman is that like Batman and Superman she has a great wealth of foes to fight for a series of video games. For example, in the first game she could fight someone relatively minor like her archnemesis on Earth: Cheetah as she causes chaos in Gateway City. The second game can up the ante by going to Themyscira where Wonder Woman fights the witch and temptress Circe. Lastly, in the finale, Wonder Woman and the Amazons could go up against the God of War Ares.

5. Venom

I would include Spiderman in this list, but he has had so many games of his own games lately that I decided to change things up, and since I utterly despise the Superior Spiderman I decided to add Venom, my second favorite Spidey villain with Green Goblin being first. However, this would not be the calm, cool Flash Thompson Venom with guns, but the utterly brutal Eddie Brock Venom that we all know and love. I think this would be an excellent opportunity for an utterly gory, horrific, rated M game resulting from Venom killing his enemies in the most brutal ways imaginable as he fights his "son" Carnage among other symbiotes. Now, I don't know if Venom is capable of having a series of videogames like the other heroes in this list, but with a Venom movie coming soon Rocksteady could do a video game before the movie comes out.

4. Iron Man

So far, there have been Iron Man games that have been tie-ins to his movies. However, if Rocksteady can make awesome video games for the billionaire, playboy, philanthropist of the DC universe, they could do the same for the billionaire, playboy, philanthropist of the Marvel Universe. Also in this series the Mandarin from the comics can be the main enemy of the series and such foes as Fin Fang Foom, Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Iron Monger, and others can make appearances.

3. Superman

My third favorite hero and the last member of DC's Trinity makes number 3 on this list. I put him on the list mainly because Batman's fights always look really cool especially when there's the occasional slow motion kick or punch, and a slow-mo punch from Superman delivered to such enemies as Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Darkseid, Mongul, Doomsday, or General Zod among others would look really awesome to me. Also the open world aspect of the Superman Returns video game should make its return to this game allowing players to have plenty of leaping over tall buildings in a single bound and running faster than a locomotive.

2. Hulk

A Superman fight in a Rocksteady game would look cool, a Hulk fight would look absolutely beautiful since more destruction is allowed in his fight and a ground smash in Rocksteady's amazing looking graphics would look better than a Da Vinci paintings. Also the graphics for a Hulk game will definitely make him more epic looking than he ever has in The Incredible Hulk and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction games. Like with the other heroes in this list, the Hulk can have a series of games where the Leader is the main enemy and other foes like Abomination, Juggernaut, Rhino, Absorbing Man and others make appearances.

1. Captain America

I desperately want my favorite superhero of all time. So far he has had only one solo game which was a tie-in to the Captain America: The First Avenger movie. However, I want a series of games where Captain America is done right meaning he fights actual Nazis instead of HYDRA, and he fights in actual World War II battles all the while fighting such foes as Red Skull, Baron Zemo, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, and Arnim Zola among others. This series can also be a great opportunity for such heroes as the Human Torch, Toro, Namor, and Union Jack can fight alongside Cap and maybe even a small cameo from Wolverine.

Well that's my list although I could go on and on. Others I would include if I wanted my list to be longer is Thor, Winter Soldier, Wolverine, and Robin. I would also like to have team games like the Justice League, Avengers, X-men, Fantastic Four, and the Teen Titans among others. However, feel free to either agree or disagree with me, and maybe even give your own list in the comments section below.

They're owned by WB, so I don't see them doing any Marvel characters. It would be cool though.
My top 5 (DC only) are:

1. Flash
2. Green Arrow
3. Suicide Squad (play as multiple characters)
4. Aquaman
5. Green Lantern (all human lanterns playable)

Rocksteady is a WB subsidiary, I highly doubt they will make a Marvel game.

You guys are right, it is highly unlikely. However, WB was the publisher behind the LEGO Marvel game so you never know.

The Arkham games are just so rich though. I put Arkham City in last night and restarted it - the atmosphere is just unparalleled. I haven't played Origins yet, but I expect it's the same. There's so much mythology packed in, with cameos, easter eggs, allusions, and inventiveness in its execution.

I think Flash has a good chance, in that respect. Superman - I've said before - you have to depower him or give all of his enemies kryptonite or else there wouldn't be much of a challenge... but he has a supporting cast almost comparable to Batman's.

Maybe Wonder Woman depending on how powerful she is. If she can fly then no but if she can't then yeah they can.

They should really just make a Justice League game.

Cant argue with your number 1. Thor is my top choice though. My idea for a thor game, is that its open world/ universe be able to explore the nine realms and the greater marvel universe, have a skill tree the last skill you learn is obviously the godblast, quests, fight alongside other heroes, transform into donald blake and see if you can keep your identity a secret on midgard whilst trying to be a doctor, face a varity of villians from loki, amora, skurge, hela, malekeith, ulik, midgard serpent, ego the living planet, thanos, surtur, fenris, the celestials the destroyer, mangog, absorbing man, the wrecking crew and hordes of dark elves, fire demons, frost giants etc. Train with a variety of heroes. protect asgard from the occasional invasion, lead asgards army into battle whilst giving orders that will determine the outcome of the battle.

What about a Swamp Thing game? Use the recent Rot World story line and make it horror, with a Resident Evil feel. You can have guest heroes such as Spectre, Zatanna, Constantine, Deadman, etc make appearances which could lead to a Justice League Dark game. Throughout this series you could also have appearances of Sandman and Death.

What do you mean you haven't seen anything that shows that Rocksteady is capable of making any of these games?

They've made the most succesful comic book video game trilogy of all time. Sure, Batman doesn't have the power sets that some of these characters have, but that doesn't matter one bit.

As Batman, we glided around the city, almost like we were flying. If they wanted to do the Flash, all they would have to do is speed up the normal running of a character animation.

The bottom line is, Rocksteady has proven to be MORE than capable of handling super-hero franchises. More so than any other video game company out there. I guess i'm just confused as to why you would say that.

You made a comment about Wonder Woman being done as long as she can't fly. Are you saying that Rocksteady wouldn't be able to handle a game with a flying character? I'm sorry but thats ridiculous. In the Batman games, we glided around, but you had almost full control of Batman. The only difference is that you were constantly descending at a slow rate, although there were things you could do, like dive, then swoop back up to gain more altitude.

Thats even harder to pull off than giving a player full control of flying.

Not to mention, games like Lego Marvel and Lego Batman 2 have been able to pull of flying very well with characters like Superman, and those games are no where near the quality that Rocksteady puts out.

@CorndogBurglar I'm going to write everything as a fact but I realise that it's not a fact. Whenever I say something like it's a fact it's just my opinion. Rocksteady hasn't done anything in this big scale. Do you think that they could do something like Infamous right now? No, they don't know how to manage these powers. They don't have enough experience with this. The Arkham games are awesome but they don't involve anything that you would have to have for a Superman game. Flying for example is a lot harder than gliding. You have to create a bigger and taller enviroment if you have as much detail as the Arkham games. It gets boring just flying up in the sky with nothing around you so you need a developer that can design the game so that every moment is fun and with substance. Superman needs to be very interactable with the enviroment. Holding cars, protecting people, fighting other with the same power level that cna fly, all those things are impossible for Rocksteady to do. A well done Superman game that I have in mind would blow everything that has ever been done out of the water. Rocksteady is very down to earth literaly so you need another company. For god sakes, we're only getting the batmobile now. I think that Rocksteady would need at least ten years of studying to be able to do half of this that I have in mind. I think that the best option is to make a Superman game through multiple companies. Rocksteady would just polish the game and help plan some things. The gameplay is the most important part of a videogame. I don't know about you but I would rather have a perfect Superman game that won't have any competition until the next generation of consoles than a decent Superman game that will simply be remembered for not failing. Wonder Woman is easier because she's more down to earth. Not interactability with the enviroment, almost none of her villains fly, and she would probably be set in multiple places like Uncharted rather than an open world like Infamous. I may be wrong but I think that you're not much of a player other than the games that everyone talks about.
@dethpillow Yeah Green Arrow is easy. Superman should not be depowered and should actually be the game with the most interactability ever.
@Ace101 Thor would make an exceptional game. It doesn't belong on this topic because I don't think that Rocksteady could do it.

Most people on this site who talk about a Superman game have no idea how to make it fun. They all probably care more about the story than the gameplay.

@Doopie I think that a Green Lantern game would be more like DC universe Online. You have a big menu with dozens of constructs but you have a smaller quick menu with predefined constructs that you can use.

@Alpha

They could make it work without depowering Superman where's trapped in the Phantom Zone or something and special missions focuses on a certain power let him go all out or a mission where all the smaller scale villains like Metallo and Parasite are thrown at him all at once and the player can go all out.

Plus standard enemies could work if they are using alien tech (such as Intergang) or Krypton metal based weapons (which can harm Superman) putting them on his level. If they do something like in AC where Superman is put in one area where he restricted too and solving a puzzle with so much of his mythos and easters eggs packed in... awesome.

Arkham City is one of those rare games to me that is completely open world but it feels like a really lone linear game like Uncharted.

@ alphadog

Yeah, you would be wrong. I'm 32 years old and I've been playing video games since I was 5.

Again, look at the dragonball games. Those are almost all fighting while in the air and it is very well done. Again, those games are no where near the quality of Rocksteady games. All it requires is a simple lock on button, something that has been done in games for a very long time now.

As far as size and scope, the city in Arkham Knight is said to be about 5 times the size of Arkham City. So I think, you may be a little mistaken when you say they aren't capable of making these large environments.

You may be right as far as Superman. He's so powerful that you would almost need to be able to have him fly off into space and back to earth seamlessly. I can get that, but I don't think ANY developer can handle that yet, or else they would have by now. Not just in a Superman game, but ANY game.

I just think that saying Rocksteady isn't capable of it is a little unfair, because I can't honestly think of any developer that could do it any better.

You mentioned Infamous, but even that is nowhere near the scope of what Superman would require. But again, you could always just have it take place on earth, and still allow him to lift cars and whatever. The problem is that the bigger you make a game, the less resources you can place on other things, like graphics. So i get it, but I think the scope of what you have in mind is out of reach for everyone right now, unless you're willing to sacrifice graphics.

Lets face it, Infamous Second Son is huge, but its certainly not the best looking game out, as far as graphics.

But who knows, maybe in a few years, when developers have gotten a better grasp on the what they're able to achieve with these new consoles, we'll be able to see something closer to what you want.

@marvel72: Daredevil would be an awesome game to play. I didn't pick Wolverine because he's had a lot of video games and movies lately, and I think users on here would complain because they say Wolverine is overdone.

@Ace101: You should go work for Rocksteady right now because your Thor game sounds absolutely amazing.

@Alphadog: Why couldn't Rocksteady just copy what Superman Returns did with it's game? That game was entirely open world and there were side missions along with the main story missions and in between missions you can zoom around Metropolis until the next mission comes up. I actually played that game and found really good imo.

Alphadog - 3/6/2014, 10:20 AM
@CorndogBurglar That's why I think that it should be a joint effort. Superman could be the biggest selling game for a long time if it were done right so WB shouldn't worry about how much money they spend. If they get the best guys from various companies and put them with a good supporting team then it won't even cost them that much. Get a few other companies to add a bit to it and there you have it. I was comparing them to Infamous because of the powers. Do you honestly believe that they could make Cole as powerful as SuckerPunch did? I'm not just talking about the powers themselves but the way he uses them throughout the city when he's jumping, running, etc. They most certanly can't do what Sucker Punch is doing with Infamous Second Son.
@Soto Gameplay is like 95 percent of a game so the story shouldn't even be considered until you figure out everything you need about the gameplay (though I came up with the story for my idea pretty early in the process and it's very good if I may say so).
@vandinejd Hum, because that game isn't anywhere close to the quality that I want.
Everyone that I hear wants the game to be simple but it shouldn't be. I don't want them to do a Superman game because he needs one but because they can make it the best game ever and the most popular for a very long time. Superman doesn't have to go to space but Metropolis should be the size of the cities in DC Universe Online and as detailed as Rocksteady as made the Arkham games. Then there's Superman, amazing gameplay potential there. You could do so much stuff if he could pick up a few key things. Then there's the super senses which could give you so much stuff if they did more than Detective Vision. He could have amazing fights without even having aliens. Livewire is basically electro in ASM2 but if you were really invested than you could make the fight so awesome. A Braniac invasion could strech the limits of the new generation of consoles. Toyman could create magnificent puzzles that force you to use Superman's powers to the limit. He could gather a bunch of people and put bombs in them that Superman couldn't deactivate. The bombs explode if the citizens stop walking in a straight line. Superman has to go around a few blocks and form passages for the victims to walk on. Toy man could set up bombs throughout the city and create a huge puzzle for Superman for him to find the bombs. He would have to use his supersenses to the maximum. Parasite has also great potential. Metallo could do awesome things if you gave him more better uses of his technology. This doesn't fit with cartoon games from the early 2000s or the recent dragonball games in anyway. This is the greatest game of all time. The enviroment should be like destiny and the villains don't even have anything to compare to because they are so much more awesome. I would make such awesome games if they gave me the chance. I mean, not the programing part because I don't have any expertise yet but I could manage the project so well.

Marvel characters will NEVER be featured in a Rocksteady game. The only reason LEGO Marvel Superheroes was made by WB is because WB owns the rights to LEGO and Marvel paid LEGO to make a game, Rocksteady is exclusive to WB and the properties of WB for example. Keep dreaming Marvelites

Suicide Squad would be like GTA5 where you flip between characters during missions with their individual talents driving forward an operation.
