PIXELS Trailer Contains Hidden Easter Egg For Ashley Benson's 'Lady Lisa'
In a neat bit of subliminal marketing, the trailer for Sony Pictures' Pixels contained a very well-hidden Easter Egg that ties in quite nicely with Ashley Benson's character, Lady Lisa, the fierce heroine of Dojo Quest! Come check it out! The film hits theaters July 24th.
Yesterday, Sony Pictures finally released the first official teaser trailer for their upcoming Chris Columbus-directed film Pixels, which stars Adam Sandler (Happy Gilmore), Peter Dinklage (Game Of Thrones), Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible 3), Kevin James (Hitch), Josh Gad (Frozen), Jane Krakowski (30 Rock), and Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars) in key roles. While most of the stars were seen in the trailer, one notable absence was Ashley Benson, who is slated to play a video game character brought to life in the film, but after a more thorough examination, it seems her perceived exclusion in the trailer may have been a little more deliberate than not.
If you had a keen eye, you may have spotted this Easter Egg yesterday, but if you were one of the many that didn't catch it, scroll down to the bottom of this article, play the trailer, and skip ahead to around the 1:38 mark. An image featuring Benson and her video game counterpart Lady Lisa will pop up very quickly and invite viewers to head over to unlock her at DojoQuest.com, which is actually a downloadable game, made exclusively for use in the movie. The game is currently available free of charge at the App Store and on Google Play. Check out a screencap of the hidden Easter Egg below:
The website also contains a link to a Tumblr page, titled "I Love You Lady Lisa," which is a strangely obsessive fan site run by Josh Gad's character in the film. Check out the trailer for the Dojo Quest video game below:
In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Monaghan plays the team's unique weapons specialist. The action-comedy is directed by Chris Columbus from a story by Tim Herlihy and a screenplay by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling, based on the original short film of the same name by Patrick Jean.
