MGM Acquires Film Rights To TOMB RAIDER Franchise

With a reboot having been in development for years, MGM has announced that it has acquired the film rights for the successful Tomb Raider franchise, and will develop alongside GK Films.

MGM's Gary Barber and producer Graham King announced today that the studio has gained the film rights to the successful video game franchise Tomb Raider, and will develop with GK Films. They hope that it will relaunch the action/adventure series. After two films from Paramount Pictures starring Angelina Jolie, a new take on Lara Croft has been in development for some time. King acquired the rights back in 2011. No distributer has been named yet. "Graham is one of the premier producers in this industry and I am delighted to be working with him on this exciting franchise," says Barber. "We look forward to developing more projects together in the future." A video game reboot was released earlier this month to much success, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that a new feature film is being actively developed. Do you want to see a new Tomb Raider movie?

Olivia Wilde?...

I really hope they make new films soon. With a tone similar to the most recent game! It was awesome.

Eh, video games should remain video games.
You can't cram an 8 hour story into just 2.

^^^ We've already had the old one. I'd rather them keep giving us new stuff instead of rebooting the same exact stuff

@Chloefornication

Your ignorance is baffling. The new game is awesome and brings new life to the then-stagnant franchise.

There's always 'that's not my (insert character), I want the real one". Sounds out of touch to me.

Loved the first two movies, Angelina Jolie was perfect.
Can't wait to see who they cast!
Maybe Camilla Ludington? whose portrays Lara in the newest video game

Gemma Arterton would be amazing.

I personally would love to see Emilia Clarke as Lara.
She's 25/26 which is the same age Angelina was when she played the role.

can't they develop untapped video game properties that may have more box office potential? Its a risk financially... But I'm tired of seeing the same crap recycled

Gemma Arterton has the perfect look, but I think that someone with a little more charisma on screen would be better.

I've just finished the new game and that could be adapted into a fantastic movie.

It has a far better story than either of the last two attempts and as for Camilla Luddington - why not? She was also the model for the character as well as the voice actor. So, if she's got the chops, give her a chance

I didn't played the reboot, but I watched lots of videos, and is nice to see the old stereotype ridiculous hot character was left behind, and the character now is more human and more beautiful.
So now that she isn't all about big tities, I say Olivia Wilde or the girl who gave her the voice (and movements too?): Camilla Ludington.
Before the character looked like she was written by a 14 year old boy, now she is a great character to bring to a movie. OLIVIA WILDE OR LUDINGTON I SAY!

HELL NO !!! - to Gemma Arterton.
Sorry Gemma, you'll always be amongst the first in my furry harem, but you are the lieteral kiss of death to any movie franchise and to be honest - really not all that great an actress. Sorry.

Ps: please do another GQ photoshoot!, those sheer-stockings were hot!, I nearly rubbed my paws raw over you on those shots!.

::Looks at Vapor's comment and facepalms::

Anyway..there are plenty of English unknowns out there who resemble Lara Croft. I like Camilla Luddington's face, but she looks a little too soft to portray Lara. Gemma Arterton would be a pretty decent choice. I think Hayley Atwell would be perfect though! She's British, brunette, bosomy, and she can ACT! I'd have her tone up a little though.
