RUMOR: Kathryn Bigelow Headlines Director's Shortlist For TOMB RAIDER Reboot

A new report is suggesting that Warner Bros. has narrowed down the director's shortlist for its upcoming Tomb Raider reboot to three highly successful female directors with Academy Award-winner Kathryn Bigelow headlining the rumored trio. Come check it out!

Take this news with a huge grain of salt, but The Tracking Board is reporting that Warner Bros. has narrowed down the list of potential directors for its upcoming Tomb Raider reboot to three. Those three rumored finalists are Academy Award-winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), and Mimi Leder (Deep Impact).

The reportedly fast-tracked reboot, a co-production between WB, MGM, GK Films, and Eidos Interactive, is said to follow a younger version of Lara Croft as she heads out on her first treasure-hunting adventure.

Bigelow would be a huge get for the film, but with her award-winning pedigree, it's a little hard to see her taking on this project, which revives the long-dormant video game-to-film franchise that previously starred Academy Award-winner Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) as the titular heroine. Leder and Hardwicke also have major big-budget films on their resumes, but it's still a little hard to picture either of them taking on this project.

What do you guys think of the rumored shortlist? Sound off with your thoughts below!

have you guys played the new game?? It's amazing. The reboot video game series is absolutely amazing.

I actually think this reboot would be a better as a netflix or HBO show. The story they brought to Lara's character in the new game was awesome.

If they follow the example the new games are setting, then this Movie or tv show will be a game changer for the genre of video game movies.

I feel that is the next genre that will get huge. Video game movies are ready to burst, I can feel it.

I hope Warcraft sets it off.

Stop trying to make video game movies a thing. They're all garbage.

@blackandyellow kinda like how all comic book movies were garbage until Spider-Man came out.

we need to climb up the pile through all the shitty ones, so we can get so epic video game movies.

Oh wow, I don't think a director of her caliber will sign on to direct a video game film.

But if she ends up doing it, that would be awesome.

@blackandyellow Most are garbage. I have a soft spot for the first MK movie and the first TR movie. They did a good job of capturing the spirit of the video games.

I think Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, and the TR Reboot have potential to be something special.

they should get ANGE back! Make a story up, she got a child from her previous flings with one of the baddies or something, and twins... The son ran off with the villains brother, and the daughter goes to be ith her Mum!... she trains her up, etc... AND Ange can also direct it!

I could believe this is in development, but Kathyrn Bigelow? There's a better chance that I'm directing this than her.

I'm calling absolute bullshit.

I doubt that Blue Beetle/Booster Gold rumor now... Tracking Board seems like another Heroic Hollywood now that we're sourcing it, very iffy... But this rumor sounds like absolute bullshit.

NO WAY Bigelow would commit to this, she's directing Oscar worthy movies, you think she'll do a video game franchise? Video game movies are NEVER that successful.

Calling absolute horseshit.

Hayley Atwell or Gemma Arterton are a natural fit. Emilia Clarke could be interesting. Just visually, Alexandra Daddario has the perfect look. She'd have to be able to do the accent (but my ideal Tomb Raider movie is very much her alone in ruins, so the dialogue is less important).

Either way, I hope this movie happens eventually. She's probably the best classic video game character to translate to live action, if was done right.

^^ Ooohh I hadn't considered Alexandra Daddario, she'd make a fine choice.
