Here we are again Friends. Another one of my fun lists of 10 games that I would like to see be translated into comics. Now from what I seen in my local comic shops, Video game comics are typically on the shelves. I have seen Gears of War, Silent Hill, Resident Evil 5, Prototype(Read most of it), and so on. All of them have the same theme, and thats they are typically set before the events of the game sorta as a gap between games or set up the events for the game. Now this list is based on games I played and for the most part, finished. As for canon to the games, I kinda sorta want to separate them but for the most part, a few on this list could be canon. I will not suggest which publisher it should go to since there are so many. What that said lets begin.
#10. Jet Set Radio Future: One of the first games I played on the original X-box, the game is set in a futuristic Japan where Graffiti and awesome roller blading street youths ride through the streets, listening to J-pop techno music. I played this game so much and loved every moment of it. Since the game never got a sequel for the 360 or PS3, a comic could pick up after the events of the game. The will follow the GG's(the heroes of the game), and their exploits reaching to all the other gangs in Japan seeking to eliminate the GG's and gain control of the youth underground.
#9. inFamous: This game kicked ass. I loved everything about it. The combat, the comic book style cut scenes, the game play, and the story. I played both hero and villain aspects and collected nearly every shard. Since I heard that a second inFamous is in the works, obviously the comic should be a bridge between both games and for a neat gimmick, the comic should have a hero and villain series. Both could follow the same arc of events but set different;y if you were good or bad.
#8. Assassins Creed: This was a good game with a fun aspect. Since the story is about going through the events of this family of assassin's each arc could follow a different member of the family, male and female assassins could be integrated. This is one where canon need not apply.
#7. Grand Theft Auto: I played GTA4 and it really changed the way sandbox gaming should be made. I love all the aspects of playing a man who rises from obscurity and lives the "American" dream. Since the games are set in different times I guess the best one to follow is around GTA4, but not have Niko as the main character. Have it set in the same time line and have gta4 characters in there as cameo's.
#6. Metal Gear Solid: One of the best game series since the early 90s and reaching into modern day. The games are set in various decades and time lines. We follow everything there is involving the name snake. Except for one aspect I would love to see. That scenario is Bosses origin, her and her cobra unit during WWII, and her time training the would be Big Boss.
#5. Final Fantasy: while technically there are mangas of this beloved franchise, we haven't seen a featured comic book of it. Now while since non of the games are canon with each other, this leaves a lot of room for creating a new adventure in a new form.
#4. No More Heroes: This is another game series that is so awesome and crazy, that its perfect for a comic. While the 2 games are about aiming for the top of the assassin leader board, the comic could be a translation of the games, where each issue is the killers and their fights or set the events of game 1 and 2 more coherently
#3. Killer7: I love this game. Everything about it screams awesomeness. From 7 unique killers to a story line thats so crazy and messed up, that it reminds of a Miike movie. Since theres so much before the events of the game, you could follow each killer as an individual or have them all in it and make it crazy fun like Nextwave.
#2. Bioshock: I loved this series. I love the atmosphere, the creepy characters, the music, the action, and the world we are placed in. The series shows us small glimpses of what the past of this world was before it became corrupt. A comic could give us more background on what lead to the destruction of the only underwater city.
these are games and series that I love and enjoyed much. Now for the one series that I have enjoyed since the early days of gaming. my #1 is.....
#1. Castlevania: The Belmont clan's adventures have been documented in the games. We have seen the earliest known events with Lament of Innocence being the first time the Belmont clan meets Dracula in 1094, all the way to Dawn of Sorrow, set around 2036. Through out all of that we get various time lines, decades, and periods. With that, we get very few gaps between events. The only story line that hasn't been touched upon is Julius Belmont and his adventures leading to Aria of Sorrow and the other is what occurs with Alucard between Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow. I would love to see these two storyline done.
And those are my 10 games that I love and would like to see a comic be done with them to expand there universes in new territories. Til next time BlackAirs out!!
