Entertainment Weekly recently had the chance to sit down with Alicia Vikander to discuss the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot but will this be the movie that breaks the curse of video game adaptations? We'll have to wait and see but the site reveals that the movie kicks off with Lara Croft living a normal life in London and doing an ordinary job (so, not a billionaire?) before a clue leads to her embarking on a search to find her presumed-dead archaeologist father played by Dominic West.
"She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits," Vikander says of this take on the iconic computer game character in the 2018 release, "but we’ve stripped away all of her experience. She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet. She thought he was a stuck up businessperson living in the modern youth culture of suburban London, but then this whole box of information. This is the beginning." It definitely sounds like it will be following the video games for the most part then!
Vikander went on to say that the success of Wonder Woman has filled her with confidence when it comes to the Tomb Raider's potential. "I went to the cinema and saw Wonder Woman the other day. It’s a mixture of joy and sadness pouring over me, as I was thinking, ‘Oh, my God, I haven’t seen women onscreen like that.’ And I wondered how many stories there have there been throughout the years that haven’t been told. If Wonder Woman made such an impact, which it deserves to, then we need to use ten times as much force to make some change. It needs to happen." Good point, eh?
A new still has also been released which you can see below. Vikander looks like she's been perfectly lifted from pixel to screen and you can let us know your thoughts on her comments in the usual place.
