“It's-a me, Mario!”

Though Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt's casting as the spry little plumber did result in quite a bit of backlash, the animated Super Mario Bros. movie is coming... whether we like it or not!

Nintendo and Illumination (via GameFragger.com) have announced that the first teaser trailer will be released this Thursday with the debut of a colourful new poster.

Though Mario himself is only shown from the back along with some adorable Toads, this poster definitely suggests that fans will be getting a pretty faithful recreation of the expansive world featured in the classic video games.

Pratt will be joined by It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia alum Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

Check out the poster at the link below, and be sure to drop back on Thursday for that trailer.

The late Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo played Mario and Luigi, respectively, in the critically lambasted 1993 live-action movie.

Super Mario Bros. will be produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. The movie was scheduled to hit theaters on December 21, 2022, but was recently pushed back to April 2023.

“Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture, and we are honored to have the unique opportunity to work so closely with Shigeru Miyamoto and the widely imaginative team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life in an animated movie, unlike any film Illumination has made to date,” said Meledandri in a statement when the project was announced.
