Besides
Star Wars: Episode IX, perhaps the most exciting thing heading into Star Wars Celebration this weekend was the reveal of EA and Respawn Entertainment's new third-person action adventure game,
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. During today's panel, the curtain was finally lifted, giving us our first look at the new story-driven, single-player game (with no microtransactions).
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order features an original story set shortly after the events of
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. It features an all-new character, Cal Kestis, a young Padawan who somehow managed to survive Order 66. If you're wondering why he may look familiar, that's because Cal is brought to life by
Gotham star Cameron Monaghan.
Set during the Dark Times, it's up to players to
"pick up the pieces of Cal’s shattered past to complete his training and master the art of the iconic lightsaber - all while staying one step ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors."
Here's what teased about the story and some of the characters players will meet:
Players will meet Cal on Bracca, a brand-new Star Wars planet and one of several new locations introduced in the game. Cal is hiding from the Empire in plain sight but is forced to go on the run when he exposes his Force powers. Along the way, Cal will make new friends, like his mysterious companion Cere, as well as run into some familiar faces, all while being accompanied by his faithful droid BD-1. Cal’s flight from the Empire is made even more dangerous as he is being pursued by the Second Sister, one of the Empire’s elite Inquisitors, who seeks to hunt Cal down and extinguish this surviving Jedi. Assisting the Second Sister are the terrifying Purge Troopers, special Imperial forces trained to seek out Jedi and aid the Inquisitors in their dastardly work.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is an action-adventure game set after Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith™. Develop your Force abilities, hone your lightsaber techniques, and explore the ancient mysteries of a long-lost civilization—all while staying one step ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors.
While we didn't see any actual gameplay footage during the panel, it was a major focus. It was described as "thoughtful combat," where players will have to size up enemies, identify and exploit their weaknesses. This seems to fall in line with what the previous rumors described as "[Dark] Souls-like" combat.
It's also worth noting that the trailer above features game assets rendered within the Unreal Engine that
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was developed in.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released this year on November 15, 2019, for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
