BOX OFFICE: WONDER WOMAN Continues To Bury THE MUMMY; On Track For $200M Weekend Domestically

The latest box office numbers are in, and after lassoing an impressive $15.8 million on Friday, it looks like Wonder Woman is on track to dominate its second weekend on release. More past the jump.

Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman took in $15.8 million on Friday, bringing its domestic total to $163.6M. If predictions are correct, this means the critically acclaimed DC movie should cross the $200 million mark on Sunday.

On its second weekend of release, Wonder Woman was hit with a less than 47 percent drop, which is actually one of the lowest drops ever for a superhero tentpole. By stark contrast, The Mummy continues to flounder.

Though the Tom Cruise-lead reboot is still expected to perform fairly well overseas, it only managed to scrape in $12 million on Friday, which means it's looking at a $30 million weekend. This is not a good start to Universal's Dark Universe by any means.

Tell us, have you been to see Wonder Woman and/or The Mummy? What's your take on the vastly different critical and commercial reaction to each?

@Desrow - After the response to The Mummy, I'm wondering how the hell they managed to snag Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, and Javier Bardem??
At least most of those guys are artists and need more persuading than just money

Based on Friday numbers, THR is calling for a really big Saturday bump for WW and some massive frontloading for "The Mummy"... I assume the Friday number for the later must include some Thursday preview money to explain that.

@Chewtoy - Cars 3 and Transformers is going to damage the box office for Wonder Woman in the coming weeks. I predict it will end it's run with $655 million.

Wonder Woman had one of the lowest drops for superhero tentpole and BvS had one of the highest.
Quality matters!!

@Elayem - Not so fast! In China...the second largest box office market...Wonder Woman dropped 72% while the Mummy is doing gangbusters. It is the largest opening for a Tom Cruise film. I think people need to temper how well they are describing how well Wonder Woman is performing. That is only true in the US.

At the end of the day, It may not make as much money (gross) as Man of Steel or the horrible Suicide Squad which did not even show in China. Would your statement still be true that "quality matters?"
