Producer of such shows as The Practice and the upcoming Harry's Law, David E. Kelly will also be producing for the DC Comic's character Wonder Woman in her second silver screen outing. Now the producer slightly updates the shows progress and reveals just how committed to the show he really is.

On how far along the show is:

"There's no real deal in place yet, but yeah, my intent is to take a stab at it," Kelley tells Zap2it. "I've been working on it between scripts for 'Harry's Law.' It's a very, very different genre for me, a very tricky beast. I won't know whether I've cracked it or not until I've finished it, but it's going."

On his commitment to the show:

"At the beginning, there was a little bit of that, but we quickly made it known that was premature. I haven't necessarily committed to doing it yet. I'm at the point where I'm trying to figure out if I can make the franchise work for me."

"If I can't, I don't want to delude Warner Bros. or anybody else that I should be doing it. The way I've always worked has been to write a script and discover, in the process of the writing, if it's a fertile and creative place where I want to live. If I feel I can make the characters my own and it's a world rich enough for me to revisit, that's a good sign to me that it's a series worth doing."

@earz - WWanimated absolutely [frick]ing rules!
@Leee - good choice. fitting surname.
I love David E. Kelly, so I want him to do this show, but I've heard it's going to deviate from the epic WW that we all love and turn her into a kind of Sitcom. Not good.

Doesnt sound like they're in too much of a rush. It has the potential to be great if handled well. (not like Smallville in other words, lol) Great find BLEED! :)

What about a movie, WW needs to get the big screen treatment now. I don't know about a TV series as long as they don't screw it up like smallville.

It's unfortunate that Smallville has been so terrible that now everyone is using it as the candle to hold any future CBTV or CBM against. Forget Smallvile, it's run it's course and is about do die a slow and embarrassing death. New shows, new writers, young minds, fresh ideas.

David E. Kelley is amazing; one of my favorite TV creators ever.

Hopefully this thing really happens, and takes-off in a big way. I just hope they don't deviate too much from the tone and style of the comic, as long as they don't go "Smallville" on us. I wonder who they'll cast...

Guess this dismisses all of the casting rumors, though.

@ anyone talking down on Smallville

Long and embarrassing run? The show has ran for 10 seasons so therefore it must be doing SOME things right. Stop trying to compare every comic book tv series to Smallville because you make it sound like the show ran for one season and did terrible. Not many shows are as successful as Smallville, so give those people some credit geez

with that said I really hope they don't go with this tv series. She needs a movie!! Give another character (Nightwing) a tv series!!!

Yeah it is kinda funny TheBatman. In Hollywood they use Smallville as a positive example of how comic book material can become real entertainment. Fans want them to run from the 'ville when in fact many people are currently looking to duplicate whatever made it work.

I never expected Smallville to be the sort of comic book TV show I wanted so I was never disappointed. However it did find a loyal audience and make 10 years so by all objective standards it is golden.

Oh and...

did anyone read the article in Entertainment Weekly last month about Whedon's experiences in why the Wonder Woman movie was so difficult? if i find a link it's great, and disappointing too. i don't know who or how a successful Wonder Woman anything will get made

@ The Darque1 - it may not be within the SVille continuity, but it will probably done in the same style; which i don't want for Princess Diana- Movie treatment all the way -

Wonder Woman is a woman so there will never be a movie.

Moving on if Warner Brothers was smart they would have the Smallville producers put in charge of Wonder Woman and have her debut before the end of the Smallville series the same goes if the Batman rumors are true.

it's a bummer that Hollywood has no idea what to do with a woman, and no one thinks a blockbuster with substance could get made featuring a strong female protagonist. it's Wonder Woman for cryin' out loud. make this movie allready

Me me me me me... that's all this guy is yapping about. No disrespect for Kelley, as I like some of his shows, but it's not about what you like or what's work for you. It's about what works for the fans-slash-audience, about what they like.

I do things I like for a living. But sometimes, as part of that job, I have to do assignments I don't like, but appeal to the audience (incidentally, I work in TV as well.)

I like Tanit Phoenix, but that Michelle Ryan I'd go for. LOL!

@Orehrepus

Why would anyone in the entertainment industry, which is work-for-hire, take a job that they would hate.

I actually think Kelley is quite mature and humble for his comments. Like Whedon, he's going to see if he can come up with a good take on the material, and then see if Warners will like it. That's all he's saying.

Maybe Elayis but what I think he's saying is we would rather hear about how he's going to be true to the characters, specifically Diana, rather than him making his own character using the name of Wonder Woman.....Which is kind of how he sounds....Obviously all we can do is speculate at this point.....
Orehrepus
Orehrepus - 12/14/2010, 3:23 AM
@Elayis: Let's hope so, though I agree with davidcub, it doesn't sound like that. But of course, we hope for the best.

What we've seen with how little DC is putting out to the big screen out of the thousands of characters they have, I don't think we have any hope of seeing the Amazon Princess there any time soon. So, I'll take a good TV version any day. LOL!
