Rebutting Reasons Why Gal Gadot is a Poor Wonder Woman

Rebutting Reasons Why Gal Gadot is a Poor Wonder Woman

I'm not necessarily defending Gal's casting, I'm just defending her against some of the (idiotic)reasons, people have come up with, for why her casting was poor.

If you read the headline and teaser, you know this is not a for or against Gal's casting as Wonder Woman article. I will admit, I'm not against her casting and that I'm willing to give her a chance, but none of that is the reason why this editorial exist.

1. Gal is too skinny, slim, anorexic, etc.

First, Gal is not anorexic; look up real anorexic people before calling her that. Second, yes she is skinny/slim/thin but that doesn't mean she won't be hitting a gym. I'm an amateur and I know how to build muscle in half the time of a traditional workout session. I'm quite sure a professional trainer knows more than me, and could probably have Gal ready before they start shooting in two months. Also, just because they are shooting in two months doesn't mean they are necessarily are shooting Gal's scenes then.

2. She doesn't have blue eyes.

This the second most common complaint I've seen, and one of the most idiotic ones. We are in the 21th century, and guess what, we have contacts that can change your eye's color. The special effects department could change Gal's eye color digitally. Now say that they don't decide to change her eye colors, well it's not that big of a deal. Before you burn down my house, look back to The Dark Knight trilogy; if you could forgive, how they pronounced Ra's name, how they made Ra's a white man, how the joker wore white make-up instead of being bleached, how Bane didn't use venom, how small Bane was, how poor Batman's fighting skills were, etc. Then the simple change of color of Wonder Woman's eyes, won't kill you.

3. Jamie Alexander looks the part better.

These are the complaints from those fooled by how Jamie looked in her Sif outfit. The bulky-ness of the outfit is what made her look like she was actually fit like a warrior, but she's not. Take a stroll over to Google, and well google her. Jamie is just as skinny as Gal.

4. Breast are too small.

First, I couldn't give less of a f@ck if Wonder Woman turned out to be flat chested, but since this is a problem for some, I'll show you why it could be easily fixed. Another thing, Gal's breast aren't really that small. All lot of photos people use to point out how she has small breast, she doesn't wear a bra in; in case you didn't know, when women do not wear bras, this weird thing happens, gravity(maybe you heard of it) pulls them down, flattening them, making them look less round. I've seen photos of her in a bra, which gives here the C-cup look, which is not "too small." I've recently graduate high school so my memory of it, is still fresh, but I will ask you to remember back to your high school days. You're in class, a girl walks in, and you notice that her breast looks large, but the next day they look average, or maybe even small. The point I'm getting at, is that there are ways to make people's breast look Bigger or smaller, so to those crying over the fact that Gal doesn't have those comicbook basket ball boobs, you so desperately want, remember with a little movie magic, she could.

5. She can't act.

There is not much I can say about Gal's acting because I've only seen her in the Fast franchise. I've heard she's only made six debuts in both the big and small screen, so this means I've seen three of them. I like the Fast franchise, but one thing I will admit is that it's not due to the acting, which I find the acting from most of the actors to be mediocre. The thing is, I'm pretty sure while making these films, the director, writers, producers, etc. know people didn't come to see Oscar worthy acting performances from the cast, but to see top-notch action and racing. If they know this, their efforts won't be on writing the characters well, or directing them well, so I can't say the mediocre performance we got from Gal in the Fast franchise was due to her own acting skills, poor direction, poor writing, or a combination of two or all three of them. We would need to see her actual performance as Wonder Woman, while knowing she was written well, and directed well, before we can say, she truly cannot act(which we know she can act, we just don't know how well).

Being for or against Gal Gadot's casting as Wonder Woman is your choice and opinion, but when giving reasons for or against the casting, the reasoning must be able to hold. So tell me, did any of these reasons hold up for you, if so let me know.

Not really a fan of this casting, but I respect your points. Some things I agree with.

She's a terrible choice, there's no refuting that! This isn't like Ben Affleck is Batman, Wonder Woman, like Superman, doesn't wear a mask. Any moron can play Batman, just talk in a deep voice and don't show any emotion.

The person who play her has to be able to emote and command the screen. I can't even remember this girl in Fast 5 except the walk away scene where the flashed her ass. This is the reason why I [frick]ing hate Zack Snyder! He's all style and appearance over substance.

Not picking a quality actress over a chick who's most memorable role is being the hot girl guys fawn over is so Snyder!

I don't have a problem with her casting...firstly her character has Greek origins, meaning that the whole Amazonian race & culture would be more ancient based upon Greek.

Which is why she would have an accent & be exotic, let's not forget that. Can someone find us a description of an amazon or are we going on any tall, athletic women being being described as 1. All I'm saying is, their basing everything on a reality template. She prob will wear something more akin to a historic representation of their peoples.

Lastly, if she wears something akin to movies like Troy/gladiator,it would work. If she moves like Brad Pitt did & she acts like a warrior akin to the defenition of the character & people, then everyone will be ok with it. Yes p,she won't have a british accent/look like a MMA fighter...but does she have to?

Just FYI:

The

Amazons (

Greek:

Ἀμαζόνες,

Amazónes, singular

Ἀμαζών,

Amazōn), also known as Oiorpata in the Scythian language, are a nation of all-female warriors in

Greek mythology and

Classical antiquity.

Herodotus placed them in a region bordering

Scythia in

Sarmatia (modern territory of

Ukraine). Other historiographers place them in

Asia Minor,

[1] or sometimes

Libya.

[2]Notable queens of the Amazons are

Penthesilea, who participated in the

Trojan War, and her sister

Hippolyta, whose magical girdle, given to her by her father

Ares, was the object of one of the

labours of Hercules. Amazonian raiders were often depicted in battle with Greek warriors in

amazonomachies in classical art.

The Amazons have become associated with many historical people throughout the

Roman Empire period and

Late Antiquity. In

Roman historiography, there are various accounts of Amazon raids in Asia Minor.

[citation needed] From the Early Modern period, their name has become a term for female warriors in general.

Etymology
The origin of the word is uncertain. It may be derived from an

Iranian ethnonym *ha-mazan- "warriors", a word attested as a denominal verb in

Hesychius of Alexandria's gloss

«ἁμαζακάραν· πολεμεῖν. Πέρσαι» ("

hamazakaran: 'to make war' in Persian") and which also appears together with the

Indo-Iranian root

*kar- "make" in

Sanskrit karma.

[3] Alternatively, a Greek derivation from

*ṇ-mṇ-gw-jon-es "manless, without husbands" (

a- privative and a derivation of

*man- also found in Slavic

muzh) has been proposed, an explanation deemed "unlikely" by

Hjalmar Frisk.

[4] 19th century scholarship also connected the term to the ethnonym

Amazigh.

[5] A further explanation proposes Iranian *

ama-janah "virility-killing" as source.

[6]Among Classical Greeks,

amazon was given a

popular etymology as from

a-mazos "without

breast", connected with an

etiological tradition that Amazons had their right

breast cut off or

burnt out, so they would be able to throw their javelins;

[7] there is no indication of such a practice in works of art, in which the Amazons are always represented with both breasts, although the left is frequently covered (see photos in article).

Origins

The legendary Amazons are believed to have lived in

Pontus,

[8] which is part of modern-day

Turkey near the southern shore of the Euxine Sea (the

Black Sea). There they formed an independent kingdom under the government of a queen named

Hippolyta or Hippolyte ("loose, unbridled mare").

[9] The Amazons were supposed to have founded many towns, amongst them

Smyrna,

Ephesus,

Sinope, and

Paphos. According to the dramatist

Aeschylus, in the distant past they had lived in

Scythia (modern

Crimea), at the

Palus Maeotis ("Lake Maeotis", the

Sea of Azov). According to

Plutarch, the Amazons lived in and about the

Don river, which the Greeks called the Tanais; but which was called by the Scythians the "Amazon". The Amazons later moved to

Themiscyra (modern

Terme) on the River

Thermodon (the Terme river in northern Turkey).

Herodotus called them

Androktones ("killers of men"), and he stated that in the Scythian language they were called

Oiorpata, which he asserted had this meaning.

The myth
In some versions of the myth, no men were permitted to have sexual encounters or reside in Amazon country; but once a year, in order to prevent their race from dying out, they visited the

Gargareans, a neighbouring tribe. The male children who were the result of these visits were either killed, sent back to their fathers or

exposed in the wilderness to fend for themselves; the girls were kept and brought up by their mothers, and trained in agricultural pursuits, hunting, and the art of war. In other versions when the Amazons went to war they would not kill all the men. Some they would take as slaves, and once or twice a year they would have sex with their slaves.

[10]The intermarriage of Amazons and men from other tribes was also used to explain the origin of various people; for example, the story of the Amazons settling with the Scythians (Herodotus Histories 4.110.1-117.1).

[11]In the

Iliad, the Amazons were referred to as

Antianeirai ("those who fight like men").

Such pedantic crap about Amazons. All that posted to outline what an Amazon is/was, but you never state whether Gadot fills into that definition.

There is really only one rebuttal for this narrative about Gal Gadot "not being the right Wonder Woman". WB has millions and potentially billions of dollars riding on this franchise, and they aren't going to [frick] it up by casting the wrong person. I guarantee you that they put more than enough thought into this decision to justify this casting. It is the same thing with Ben Afleck and Henry Cavill. The fact is these people do this for a living and they are 1000% more qualified to make these casting decisions than anyone on this website. How many people bitched about Christian Bale being cast as batman? How many people bitched about Heath Ledger being cast as the Joker? The producers and directors of this movie and franchise know what they are doing. Trust them.
