Warner Bros. Reportedly Planning Massive WONDER WOMAN Oscar Campaign For Director And Best Picture
Could Patty Jenkins' critically acclaimed Wonder Woman become the first ever comic book movie to be nominated for an Academy Award for best picture? It could if the studio has its way. More past the jump.
Wonder Woman was pretty much universally adored by both fans and critics alike, and has now passed $781 million at the global box office to become the highest-grossing movie directed by a woman. Very impressive indeed - but will it be enough to land the film an Oscar nomination?
According to Variety, Warner Bros. is planning on shelling out big bucks to launch a "groundbreaking" campaign in the hopes of lassoing the movie a nod for best picture, and Patty Jenkins a best director nom. They're probably going to have their work cut out, however, because the Academy is notoriously stuffy about comic book-based flicks.
Even when the best picture category was extended to a maximum of 10 movies back in 2010 after Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight failed to get any recognition, we still haven't seen any CBMs compete for the top awards.
Some are already calling this a fool's errand, but we're going to remain optimistic.
What do you guys think? Would you like to see Wonder Woman be nominated for best picture? How about Jenkins for best director? Sound off below.
