WONDER WOMAN Rumor Suggests Gal Gadot WILL Return As Diana In The DCU WONDER WOMAN Rumor Suggests Gal Gadot WILL Return As Diana In The DCU

There have been conflicting reports about Gal Gadot's status as Wonder Woman, but a new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that the actress will be back as Diana in James Gunn's DCU...

Earlier this year, Gal Gadot surprised us all by revealing that, as far as she knew, James Gunn and Peter Safran were planning to develop a third Wonder Woman movie, with her back in the lead role as the iconic Amazon warrior.

"I had a meeting with (DC Studios CEOs) Peter Safran and James Gunn, and they both told me that they're going to develop a third Wonder Woman with me," the Heart of Stone star told USA Today. "They said, 'You're in the best hands, you've got nothing to worry about.' Time will tell."

The actress was all set to reprise the role of Diana for a third film with WW84 director Patty Jenkins back at the helm, but we had been led to believe that the movie was shelved when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of the recently implemented DC Studios.

Though a trade report would later clarify that Wonder Woman 3 was not currently in the works, Gunn has yet to weigh in on Gadot's comments. Since the new DCU is (or was supposedly) being developed as a full reboot, it was generally assumed that Gadot, along with Henry Cavill and the rest of the original "SnyderVerse" cast, would be replaced as their respective characters going forward.

However, it's looking increasingly likely that Gunn intends to pick and choose which actors/characters he wants to keep on board, and a new rumor is now claiming that, despite reports to the contrary, Gadot will be back as Wonder Woman in the DCU at some point.

There are no current plans (as far as we know, at least) for Wonder Woman in the first chapter of the DCU slate, "Gods and Monsters," but a Max TV series titled Paradise Lost is in development that will focus on “a Game of Thrones-type story about Themyscira.”

We had assumed this show would lay the groundwork for a new take on the character to be introduced down the line, but it seems Gadot might be staying put after all.

What do you make of this update? Would you be happy if Gadot remained on board as Wonder Woman in the DCU, or were you looking forward to a new actress taking on the role?

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The more we learn about this so called DCU, the more it becomes clear that picking Gunn for the job was a terrible mistake. It's also proof that being a good filmmaker doesn't make you a good film executive.

@Th3Batman -

Warner Brothers is repeating all the same mistakes...

- Warner Brothers leaves the DC film universe in the hands of an avaerage director that has a film style that appeals to a small segment of the general audience...Check

-The studio announces a slate films that no production teams or even concepts has even been developed yet...Check

-The first outing of the new film universe film will feature Superman with a group of other super heroes shoehorned in to the story...Check

I guess the only difference this time is instead of dark, doom and gloom, it will be goofball, slapstick, comedy!

If I can paraphrase Princess Leia
"Help us Matt Reeves! You are our only hope!"

@Forthas - Matt Reeves? You’re just doing the same thing. Putting it in the hands of someone you like.

Don’t get me wrong, I like The Batman very much. It should not be a director who is in charge of the direction.

They need to start with a singular movie, make the best movie than can that stands alone, then build off of that. Have a basic frame work they want to build toward to and end result but keep it loose so they can make adjustments.

@philinterrupted - I was partially joking about Matt Reeves. I don't want him in charge of the DCU. I want a seasoned proven producer/director. I have been a vocal advocate of Jonathan Nolan, co writer of what I think was the greatest CBM ever, did a fantastic job adapting Westworld into an award winning visually stunning franchise.

They don't need to start over fully. They need to go back to the point where it all went south. Everything from BVS to now should be erased and the Dark Knight films and Man of Steel should be the foundation.

@Forthas - "the Dark Knight films and Man of Steel should be the foundation"

It would just cause more confusion. The only, real solution, is to start completely over. Nothing from the past, be it what worked or what didn't, should be a part of this. Actually, better yet, just drop the whole shared universe concept and focus on solo franchises instead.

@Forthas - I don’t disagree with where it all went wrong.

I’d rather not have a director leading the universe because it kind of limits the vision to their style.

Give me someone with a clear vision that has the patience to get there.

Considering Joker and The Batman have been DC's biggest hits yet, i'm baffled they haven't gone this route. Obviously, copying Marvel is doing them no good, they should just do something different instead of trying to copy.

Forthas - 9/23/2023, 12:33 PM
@Th3Batman - I don't believe people will be confused. The MCU just did this with the legacy Netflix Marvel superheroes and even to some extent Fox has done the same. There is no reason to hope for a Batman in the shared universe when there is a fully fleshed out Batman that still enjoys more goodwill than any other DC property.

The shared universe can work and be epic. The interaction between super heroes and supervillains of different franchises creates interesting story opportunities. I would love to see Bruce Wayne match wits with Lex Luthor, or Wonder Woman fight Faora.

@philinterrupted -

Given the reception of BVS I think it is unequivocal that is when the rug was pulled out under this franchise.

So far the director led shared universe is zero and one. The producer led one is one and zero. I don't think that is a coincidence.

@Forthas - "The shared universe can work and be epic"

It can, the problem is that the people running it have no clue what they're doing. Would you really trust Gunn to continue the dark knight trilogy properly ?

@Th3Batman -

Well I guess I am assuming a world where people come to their senses. Under the current regime, not only should they not touch the Dark Knight Trilogy, they should not touch anything DC related. To all the people that will say we should give Gunn a chance. They did...it was called The Suicide Squad and it bombed because people are not interested in his brand of filmmaking.
Th3Batman
Th3Batman - 9/23/2023, 1:11 PM
@Forthas - When Gunn was announced, the major talking point was "wait until the slate is announced before judging him"...and we did, and it's terrible. To make things worse, everything he's said since is even worse. The only way a shared universe lead by the dark knight trilogy works is if the team behind it, starting with Christopher Nolan, agrees to run it. That entire team moved on from DC and WB a long, long time ago, and they will never look back.
Forthas
Forthas - 9/23/2023, 1:16 PM
@Th3Batman - I don't care if Christopher Nolan comes back. I think there are competent people who could step in starting with Jonathan Nolan. But even if he were o say no then I would trust someone like Michael De Luca who is already at Warner Brothers. Gunn was a mistake and I don't understand what would possess someone to choose him to lead the DC cinetmatic universe. I suspect he is just a place holder until they can sell.
Th3Batman
Th3Batman - 9/23/2023, 1:32 PM
@Forthas - I don't think there's a director on earth who'd be willing to continue the work of someone like Christopher Nolan. The expectations would be so high that they could never be lived up to, destroying the career of the dolt who thought it was a good idea to take the job. I'm not just talking about Batman, but making a sequel to any project Nolan worked on.

As for Gunn, he wasn't the studio's first choice, or even second choice for that matter. They approached a number of people before going to him, including Todd Philips and Matt Reeves, all of whom said no to the offer.
Forthas
Forthas - 9/23/2023, 4:20 PM
@Th3Batman -

I don't think a director would have to make a film as good as Nolan. At this point for DC above average would do! That is how desperate the fan base is probably at this point.
Th3Batman
Th3Batman - 9/23/2023, 4:53 PM
@Forthas - There's another issue WB would have to deal with, the fact that any high calibre director will want to start their own series, not continue someone else's.
Forthas
Forthas - 9/23/2023, 10:36 AM
I think that all those 30 second cameos she did for the Flash and Shazam Fury of the Gods she did as a favor, so the studio feels obligated to keep her. This will seal the fate of this iteration of the DDCU film universe as it will break the perception of continuity and anger the fans whose favorite characters were booted out!

The DC franchise needs to be sold off and quick!

ObserverIO - 9/23/2023, 10:37 AM
@Forthas - Some favor. Every movie she cameo'd in flopped.
Th3Batman
Th3Batman - 9/23/2023, 10:45 AM
@Forthas - Now do you see why Nolan and Bale ran to the nearest exit when they were asked to be a part of this ? A decade later, and they still don't know what they're doing. To give you an idea how long that is, you can get a BA, MA, and PH.D in less time than this studio was given to learn from their mistakes.
Forthas
Forthas - 9/23/2023, 10:55 AM
@Th3Batman -

I put most of the blame on Zack Snyder! It was his early decisions that ultimately got us here. The studio is of course guilty of interference BUT if the early DC universe was a huge success, they would let whoever was in charge do their thing like they did with Nolan and now Matt Reeves. The studio is like an absent parent that only want to be a parent after the child has wrecked the car and caused all sorts of damage and embarrassment.

Satish - 9/23/2023, 2:37 PM
@Forthas - I agree. Zack Snyder was over ambitious without clear picture, and Warner brothers are limping ever since. They should have rebooted entire DC after Batman vs Superman.

The whole Gal Gadot situation is weird. She is not… a great actress. She is Prequel-era Star Wars wooden.

It’s weird how so many people, who were more than happy to let Cavill and Affleck go, will never allow Gadot to be recast.

Regardless if it's true, the fact it's even rumored at all just reinforces one of my biggest concerns for the DCU. My 3 biggest concerns and why I think although there might be a honeymoon phase, the DCU will ultimately fail.
1. Unwillingness to commit fully to a reboot by keeping certain actors like Robbie, Gadot, Cena, etc.
2. Oversaturing Batman by having 2 different actors playing a cinematic Bruce Wayne around the same time.
3. Having everything be canon and under the same roof. If people are already saying it's hard enough keeping up with the MCU which is just theatrical and streaming, imagine how much harder it'll be to keep up with the DCU if animation and video games will also be canon.
