WONDER WOMAN Screenwriter On How The DC Extended Universe Differs To Marvel

While Jason Fuchs (Pan) for some reason refuses to confirm or deny his involvement with Wonder Woman, he has lots to say about how the DC Extended Universe is coming together and the main ways in which it differs to what both Marvel and Fox are doing with theirs...

"This is what I would say. When you work for DC, it’s sort of like working for the CIA. You have a vow of silence. I think, as we speak, Zack Snyder’s gonna come in here and put a muzzle on me. The trouble with these things is that you really can’t say much. So I’m excited about everything that’s going on in that universe. And I’ve certainly read the same reports you’ve read about my involvement and what that might be, but I can only speak to it as a fan. I can tell you, I am someone who from a very young age was a huge fan of DC Comics. A huge fan of that key troika in the Justice League of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, as well as all the other characters. So I am very, very happy that that DC Cinematic Universe is finally being fleshed out. I don’t think it’s any secret that people who have seen the Batman v Superman trailer, the Suicide Squad trailer can see that this is a very different cinematic universe than the one that Marvel has constructed over at Disney, or the one that Simon Kinberg and company have constructed with X-Men over at Fox. It’s a really specific, grand, slightly darker, slightly grittier place. As a fan of those comic books, a fan of those movies, I’m excited to see where it goes next."

Interesting comments for sure, but what is it with everyone involved with these movies constantly emphasising the fact that the DC Comics adaptations are darker, grittier, and more realistic that what Marvel are doing? We get it already! It's also a little strange that Fuchs wouldn't confirm that he's writing Wonder Woman, though the fact that he offered such in-depth comments makes it clear that he's involved in the DC Extended Universe in some way. Hopefully we'll hear something official soon anyway! What do you think? As always, weigh in with your thoughts in the usual place.

That's a shame. I wish Disney Marvel, Fox Marvel, and DC all had the same tone. I'd prefer to watch 6 moves per year that all felt the same. Whoever said variety is the spice of life was full of shit.

At least he didn't say "Transcendent"

That seems to be Zack Snyder's one descriptive.

SOOOOO...the muzzle is the DCEU version of the Marvel Sniper...waaaay to differentiate lol. Sounds like an interview with a MCU actor on a late night show.

Nothing new here...at all. Rinse and repeat when describing the differences. It's like there's a memo sent out at WB that says to say this in interviews haha.

All jokes aside, I'm excited for this film

"I know the article isn't finished, but I chuckled after reading the title and then reading that first paragraph that sounded like it was ripped from a Chris Evans interview."

I thought the same thing for real

While the DCCU is different from the MCU its nothing new... DC has been doing the dark and gritty for a while.
Burton Batmans were dark and gritty, Nolans Batmans were dark and gritty, Watchmen was dark and gritty, MOS was a dark version of Superman and other failed movies were attempts at dark and gritty gone wrong.

His screenwriting credits aren't the best....seeing as how Ice Age: Continental Drift is his most prominent film before Pan and we haven't seen Pan yet...Joe Wright is the reason I'm excited for Pan...and the cast too

I stay optimistic

True....but BvS gonna kick off with more characters....that's gonna shape the DCEU big time....also SS may have an after credit scene for WW or Aquaman...

The thing is, I want variety within universes / studios. I'd like some darker themes in the MCU (Winter Soldier and Daredevil scratched that itch pretty well, but they can go darker) and I want some lighter fare from WB. As long as it fits the character, I'd like all of the studios to pursue the full spectrum.

I don't care how dark they go with these movies, just don't blatantly piss right in all of the characters collective faces in order to do it. If the character's not really dark, don't make them really dark.

"If the character's not really dark, don't make them really dark."

That sentence could totally stand on its own in a character race change article. Ah, context, I love you so.
