With the release of WB/DC‘s new trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The world had their first look at Diana Prince, a.k.a. Wonder Woman, who is being brought to life by Israeli actress Gal Gadot (Fast and the Furious). The Iconic female hero is due to debut on the big screen for the first time next summer, but her involvement in the film is still a mystery. Famed comics writer Grant Morrison who is currently penning the graphic novel Wonder Woman: Earth One believes the on screen portrayal fails to honor the vision of her creator. Her actions in the trailer go against Wonder Woman creator William Marston’s intention for the DC Comics icon. Speaking with the Nerdist Morrison had this to say
“[The warrior woman thing is] not what [Wonder Woman creator] William Marston wanted, that’s not what he wanted at all! His original concept for Wonder Woman was an answer to comics that he thought were filled with images of blood-curdling masculinity, and you see the latest shots of Gal Gadot in the costume, and it’s all sword and shield and her snarling at the camera. Marston’s Diana was a doctor, a healer, a scientist….”
Morrison went on to say his new comic book would present a more peaceful Wonder Woman.
“Halfway through the book, we’re building up to this big fight, and then I thought, ‘No … this book isn’t about fights, there’s not going to be any fights,”
“[I thought,] what would a society of immortal women that’s been around for 7,000 years have done? They wouldn’t still be chopping men’s heads off; they’ve got art and architecture and philosophy and poetry and it’s got nothing to do with men."
Now to be fair to the producers and director of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Morrison has not seen the movie. This was only a trailer and we don’t know how Wonder Women will be portrayed in the completed film. What do you think ? Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits the theaters March 25th, 2016.
