X-Men Producer Campaigns For Wonder Woman!

X-Men Producer Campaigns For Wonder Woman!

Lauren Shuler Donner, producer of the X-Men movie franchise, has said she would love DC to allow her to produce a Wonder Woman movie!...

Donner isn't the most popular producer with the fan boys. So this may leave her in for some more back lash, but she revealed to scifiwire at The Saturn awards that she would love it if DC gave her a crack at producing an adaptation of Wonder Woman..

"I'm campaigning to produce Wonder Woman for DC and Warners, they don't want it but I just think she's the greatest character. She's right up there, as you know, with Superman and Batman, the three of them. I want to produce Wonder Woman."

The rights are back with DC and Warner Brothers, Donner says. So Donner is making phone calls, taking meetings and telling the press she wants it.

"I've campaigned for it. I'm going to campaign some more. I want to produce Wonder Woman. Look, she's a goddess and a superhero. How great is that? I think you need to stay close to the myth but the studio I know wants to make it accessible, i.e. somewhat contemporary. I think there is a way to do it."

Apparently Donner said that she would want to cast a young up and comer so a franchise could be kicked off..

"I think so because I'd like it to grow. I think there's a lot of Wonder Woman stories that would be great to tell. I see a couple of them."

This is strange one. That line "they don't want it". Is Donner referring to DC and Warner Bros not wanting to do anything with the character, or not wanting her anywhere near it? It seems strange if its the former because DC have already announced that they would be looking at WW as one of their next big projects. Were they just telling us what we wanted to hear? Certainly since then they have made more of telling us about the prospective Flash movie and a Green lantern sequel than mentioning anything to do with WW.

Anyway, she seems passionate about the character so if she could get things moving I say why not. "NOOOO, she let Deadpool have swords in his arms!!" Yeah yeah, heard it all before. Lets see what she does with First Class eh? If the script and the director(depending on who that may be)shared a certain vision for the character, I think she could do a good job. Love or hate The X-Men movies, there is no denying their success, so maybe DC might factor that into this campaign of hers.

Where does it say this wouldn't follow comic book continuity? Add in the fact few comic book movies really follow comic book continuity being they keep rebooting.

I'm all for her taking the project. At least she has the passion for it.

If she can get the ball rolling, okay, but I think the creative processes should not include her.

She hasn't had the greatest track record of late, so my first instinct is to say no thank you. But, and this is a big but, if her pitch sounds solid, it would be a good thing to have a woman going to bat for a character that so many in the past have said they couldn't or wouldn't do a live action version of because they either don't get the character or don't think she would be commercially viable (especially to men, because we apparently don't like strong females).

claybo, I thought she might make a good WW back when she was announced as having a part in that Tarsem Greek myth movie. She might be a bit slight of frame, but otherwise, deffo has the looks and the talent.

I always liked the Idea of Liv Tyler playing her but I get nearly crucified for suggesting her. Shes 5'10 jet black hair and can act. She has the soft spoken and humble side that Diana shows yet she can be strong and commanding. Just have her on a low carbs diet and high protein she would be great.

@ror I didnt even think of her before, but now thinking about it, I think she would do it, I would have no problem having an Indian woman play Wonder Woman

I say let her get the ball rolling. She has a good track record (X-Men films, St. Elmo's Fire, Constintine, Marverick, Pretty in Pink) and she knows how to get projects happening. Plus, her husband did direct DC's first big superhero movie and one of the most beloved, so she could bring him along as a producer as well.

As long as they get the ball rolling and get an good director (Sofia Coppola) and a good screen writter. I do like the idea of casting an up and commer.

I campaign for her to never ever come near the production on any CBM... EVER!!!

Ranger14- She specifically went on record to say that the next x-films WOULD follow comic book continuity and they NEVER have... EVER!!! So her saying that if she's in charge, WW would follow continuity has just as much credibility as the people walking around with cardboard sandwich outfits with "Jesus is coming back" written on them! SHE'S THE DEVIL!!!

EVANGELINE LILY(with a boob job and a years physical training) FOR WONDER WOMAN!!! She'd be better than Beckinsale and Tyler put together ;P But she might be too short though... Ah screw it! JODI LYN O'KEEFE for WW :))

NO!! Oh GOD NO!!!! ANYONE even REMOTELY associated with the the Fox 'X' fiasco should have a restraining order placed against them so that can't come within 1,000 yard of a CBM property - EVER!!!

The problem with Wonder Woman is that the concept and her story are very interesting, with the blend of superheroics and mythology, but the character herself is downright boring.Other than the fact that she's the most known female hero, there is nothing especially significant about her.The comic books failed to give her a personal life outside of being Wonder Woman. She's boring. And even though she's DC's most known female superhero, she isn't the most interesting.Zatanna, Batgirl, Black Canary and even Supergirl have more personality than her.And if you're looking for a blend of mythology and superheroes, they've still got Captain Marvel.

I do believe that in order to make a great Wonder Woman movie, they need to deviate a little from the comics, and develop the character more.I liked how she was portrayed in last year's animated movie.
Shaman
Shaman - 6/25/2010, 11:47 AM
loganoneil- DAMN RIGHT!!!

tazmaniak- I see your point. The comic writers certainly have focused alot more on anything around the character (history included) than the character development itself. Of course i haven't read much of her comics but anytime she's part of a team ensemble, she's the least interesting character there in the sense that she really hasn't brought much other than her presence. So for the film, since the character hasn't been very well developed over the years, i'm all for creative liberties AS LONG AS the character's history and personality remain the same!

This woman = death to any vague possibility of quality or excellence in CBMs.

I won't go into my personal feelings about her and X3. But suffice to say they are very very bad

Shaman - Wonder Woman's potential hasn't been fully developed because of the rather sexist viwes that comic books have had towards women in general over the decades. Diana has been treated as an overblown 'sex-kitten' for a good portion of her history (as has much of the female superhero population). It's only been recently (when publishers FINALLY realized that girls read comic books too) that heros like Wonder Woman have actually 'grown a pair' and are starting to ACT like the strong heros they SHOULD be!
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 6/25/2010, 12:56 PM
Let's keep in mind she would be the producer, not the writer or director. The producer manages business affairs (budgets, inventory, personnel, etc.) they don't generally handle the creative side of things.
Shaman
Shaman - 6/25/2010, 12:58 PM
loganoneil- I ENTIRELY agree with all that you've said here, brother ;)

So i guess the only thing they should follow in terms of Diana's development would be her recent comics. I haven't read them myself but i really want this film to succeed(as in Ironman, not X3) and it's certainly not with Donner or any other idiot like Akiva Goldshit that it will happen!

Ranger14- Oh i totally understand that. And publically lying about the content of the film or the continuity it and all the rest of the x-films follow makes her a very very BAD producer. She deliberately LIES to sell her product. And to who??? To the character's very fans! She should be burnt at the stake! If she doesn't do research on the characters and their continuity in the books and also has ZERO say into what is made of the film then she should just shut the [frick] up about it! Publically lying to the fans just so she can get them all to see it, is EVIL!!!

Shaman - Maybe if she gets the job, she'll hire Singer to direct it. That way he can just watch another @#$!-ing cartoon or the old 70's TV show and not actually do any reaseach.

I think I'm making myself sick at the thought of it all...

loganoneil- Well last we heard, WB were still considering Singer for a sequel to SR for the longest time until Singer took himself the decision NOT to make it. So i wouldn't even be surprised if they did let Donner and Singer make this. Goddamn you WB!!!
