WONDER WOMAN 1984 Spoilers - New Plot And Character Details Revealed About The Sequel

Wonder Woman 1984 was supposed to be released this year, but plans changed and we won't get to see the movie until next summer. There have been conflicting reports regarding the delay, but the recent poster certainly generated a lot of buzz and fans are anxious for that first trailer.

Alas, with Warner Bros. opting to give Comic-Con a miss, we won't see that until December.

In the meantime, a new report has shed some light on the Wonder Woman sequel's plot and it sounds like it will be taking us to some very unexpected places. Perhaps most surprising is the news that director Patty Jenkins is seemingly planning to retcon the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by revealing that Diana Prince was a well-known superhero in the 1980s.

So, for intel on that, how Cheetah and Maxwell Lord will be portrayed, and plans for Steve Trevor, all you guys have to do is hit the "View List" button!

Wonder Woman's New Mission

Diana-P

Remember how a good chunk of Batman v Superman revolved around that photo of Diana Prince that Bruce Wayne managed to get off Lex Luthor in order to stop the villain exposing Wonder Woman's existence to the world? Well, it seems that's being thrown out of the window in this film.

The 80s setting will see the Amazon Warrior acting as a spy during the Cold War, and her mission is reportedly to hunt down a "nefarious" Russian spy.

While that may sound covert, the site reveals that in Wonder Woman 1984, Diana is known as a superhero and that makes sense considering we've already seen her running through the streets of Washington D.C. and hanging out in a mall. The question is, do Zack Snyder's films no longer count?

Cheetah

Cheetah

As for Cheetah, we know that she's being played by The Martian's Kristen Wiig, but some new details about her origin story have now come to light. Apparently, Barbara Minerva is a huge fan of Wonder Woman's and wants to be just like her (further confirming that Diana is a publicly known superhero).

Well, Maxwell Lord offers to help her with this and while she's initially a hero, her beast side soon becomes more and more difficult to control. Understandably, this leads to the public turning on her and she inevitably becomes a villain as a result, with Wonder Woman the only one capable of stopping her.

Maxwell Lord

Lord

How does Maxwell Lord help transform Barbara into Cheetah? Well, Patty Jenkins has changed his powers in a big way, and while his comic book counterpart can control people's minds, Pedro Pascal's version will have the ability to grant people's wishes...at a price (like an evil Genie?).

That explains why Cheetah ultimately loses control along with another major plot point which has been bugging fans.

Steve Trevor's Return

Steve-Trevor

We've been hearing rumblings about this for a while, but, yes, Lord is indeed the one who somehow brings Steve Trevor back to life.

The site doesn't reveal what the catch is, but they note that he has a plan and is "even said to transfer his soul to another… none other than Diana Prince’s beloved Steve Trevor." That may give Chris Pine the opportunity to play a very different type of character, and will almost certainly lead to heartbreak for the Amazon Warrior!

In the comics, Lord was granted his powers thanks to an alien invasion, but given Ares' role in Wonder Woman, how much do you want to bet that he's also a God of some sort?

To be honest, I don't really know what to think of this. It sounds cool and all, but I wonder how they 80s setting is gonna factor into this. And I too wonder now if the previously established timeline still exists

@MalseMarcel -
I can't wait for this film, but they better have Duran Duran somewhere in the soundtrack.

Sorry... "The Martian's Kristen Wiig"? That's the reference you chose? Not, um, Bridesmaids... or (ill-fated as it was) the Ghostbusters reboot? Saturday Night Live?

Uh what? In Patty Jenkins we trust I guess.
OT: Don't let this plot synopsis distract everyone from the fact that AD is coming to LA

I hope Snyder's movies are ignored and erased in the DCEU continuity.

@mrbioshock1984 - Yet both Aquaman and Wonder Woman picked up from a Snyder film. Continuity wise this sounds like X-Men level carelessness. I get hating the Snyder films but those film happened. If WB were smart they would build off of their mistake such as having the Justice League film erased by Flashpoint and the history of the DCEU erased that way.

@SonOfAGif - And what would've happened had Flashpoint sucked, and bombed hard?😂 Props to WB for not continuing to double-down, and potentially create ANOTHER Justice League disaster. I don't think many people will either remember or care, that she was supposed to have retired or lived in secret in Man's World, as stated in BvS. That was always a dumb plot point anyway. Surprisingly, I didn't even see anybody question where Diana was, during the Kryptonian invasion in Man of Steel. THAT'S what should've been answered during BvS. Seeing her reaction to Superman's reveal.

Everybody knows that the Zack Snyder/David Ayerverse, needs to be revamped. You can do that, without throwing everything away. Similar to the comics, when you have bad runs on certain titles. You "softly" reboot, and keep going.

@WAKANDABATMANFOREVER - I agree, but Superman needs a comp[lete fixing somehow. Not recasting, although, by the time they ever do something they may need to..
