DARK PHOENIX Star Tye Sheridan Has Some Thoughts On Marvel Studios Possibly Recasting Cyclops

Dark Phoenix star Tye Sheridan has shared his take on the possibility that Cyclops will soon be recast for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while reflecting on what playing Scott Summers meant to him!

Most fans agree that 20th Century Fox's X-Men films got a lot wrong over the years, with 2019's Dark Phoenix putting something of an exclamation mark on that point.

That film may have been a bit of a disaster, as was The New Mutants in the eyes of many, but Fox never really dropped the ball when it came to casting its mutants. Tye Sheridan, for example, was a great Cyclops, and an actor who did a successful job of following in the footsteps of James Marsden.

Marvel Studios is likely to recast the role when the time finally comes to reboot the X-Men franchise, and Sheridan has opened up on how he would feel about seeing someone new take over.

"I was excited and honored to play Scott Summers after James Marsden," he tells ComicBook.com. "I always looked up to that guy and I always thought he was super cool in those movies, and a good guy and a great actor. They're part of the X-Men franchise now, and probably feel the same way towards all the actors that played the roles before them."

"I think it's an honor to kind of fill the shoes of something that's great or someone that's great. I don't think I would feel weird, you know, as long as it...I think they're doing, the cast is doing, the story justice, and they're doing the X-Men world justice."

Sheridan clearly isn't too possessive of the role, and just hopes to see the next actor to play the character do Cyclops justice. That's a sentiment comic book fans everywhere can surely agree with.

Getting the right guy to play Cyclops will be key to the X-Men's success in the MCU.

@ByKnight - absolutely, hard to get the audience to connect with a character with his personality when they cant see his eyes. I mean he has a rigidity and, well, dorkiness (I know this is hugely offensive to those people who think he’s the coolest, the same people who think Captain America is cool. They’re both awesome despite their uncoolness though haha).

I heard once that there’s a notion in Hollywood that you should hire the most charismatic, outgoing people possible to play uncharismatic characters, because even when they’re saying something boring with a stone face, their charisma shines through and makes them likeable anyway.

Man I hope Scotty finally gets the attention he deserves. The Fox series was too much Wolverine-focused.

Cyclops is my favorite marvel character and to see him done justice in the mcu is a big dream of mine. It cant happen soon enough.

Also, Cyclops deserves more prominence. I have thought of a plot between Mister Sinister, Scott and Alex.

Also, Cyclops vs Havok

@Repian - That scene with Sinister is my favorite X-Men moment of all time.

@Repian - Mr. Sinister needs to be key in introducing the X-Men to the MCU, and the Summers bloodline must be critical. That 90s book is one of my favorites of all time, I remember it well, and I remember debating with my elementary school friends the whole "brothers" thing. It was fun to watch that one come to fruition.

I really didn't think he was all that good as Cyclops. Not like they gave him much to begin with.

The MCU Cyclops casting is more important the the Wolverine casting imo.

He’s yet to make an indelible mark in any live action take so far

@BlackBeltJones - Absolutely right. I trust Feige. He knows how important Cyclops is.

Possibly? They better recast him.

''Sheridan clearly isn't too possessive of the role''

Considering he was in one movie with very weak material to work with, that doesn't surprise me

@bkmeijer - Two movies, but yes very weak material.

Kind words of the guy, gained some respect in my book here.

His character was never delivered properly in the X-Men films and I was fairly underwhelmed with Sheridan's performance compared to Marsden who at least gave the role some charisma.
Hoping for Marvel to do with Cyclops what they did with Captain America and make him a likable hero

I finally bit the bullet yesterday and watched Dark Phoenix and I... enjoyed it? I was expecting far worse. Maybe it was because I went in with such low expectations, but I'd say there are definitely worse X-Men movies. Looking at you Apocalypse.

@whatevtrev - Yeah, it's pretty ridiculously boring (considering the material they're adapting) and had a totally lackluster and uneven script, but I was surprised at how competently it was filmed. Technically, Kinberg is apparently a fine director, which is weird. At least, I thought so.

But I do find it baffling that he talked about how he originally envisioned it as a two-part movie (or did he say trilogy?). If that was the case, I would think it should have been overstuffed, trying to cram two whole movies into one. But it felt like an hour-long TV episode dragged out an extra 50% to me.

Again, not the worst hour of television or anything. But like a fairly solid episode of the Gifted with a much bigger budget.

@Spock0Clock - I definitely agree with that! It certainly feels like a feature length episode of a TV show rather than the conclusion to an entire franchise. But taken on it's own, I think it's perfectly fine.

This is one place on the internet where you're more likely to see people showing more love to Superman or Cyclops and i really don't know if it's just because they are sick to death of Batman and Wolverine...
Like, i actually get that but...heh.

But Alexandra Shipp told us all they weren’t recasting!
